Highlights
  • Cooking Sun Tokyo - All ingredients and supplies, an apron and a towel will be provided for you. Your class will be a small group (limited to a maximum of 8 people), so you will never be a bystander.

Wagyu is a world-famous word nowadays. “Wa” means Japan(ese), and “Gyu” means beef.
During this class, you will make use of various methods to complete your full-course lunch, from appetizers to dessert. The instructors are all friendly, English-speaking locals who are happy to assist you. They will share some tips and stories of each recipe and sometimes share some secret techniques, too. This cooking class will give you a homey atmosphere to cook in.

As Japanese always start with “Dashi”-making, each class will begin with the making of “Dashi,” the fundamental soup stock of Japanese cooking. Your instructor will also explain about some of the typical Japanese seasonings which are frequently used.

Then, you will prepare 7 dishes learning classic and modern recipes, ways to present food, elaborate cuttings and unique Japanese ingredients. As a main dish, you cook some beautiful, tender Wagyu beef.

After all of the cooking is finished, finally, it will be time to say ‘Itadakimasu!’

A fun calm class in the heart of Tokyo. - This was a great cooking class for all skill levels. It gave us a number of great Japanese dishes to make. We also did the cooking sun class in Kyoto, and while there was some overlap there was significant variation from those overlapped dishes, so we were actually glad we did both classes. The variations on the dishes were fun to learn! And when I say overlap, there were 2 dishes out of 9 that were similar. The instructors here were again very easy going and super helpful. If you enjoy cooking and cooking classes as a means of engaging another culture, I highly recommend this one. I also recommend it to see a different more "residential" neighborhood in Tokyo.

Relaxed, Friendly and delicious - Very relax and friendly environment. We cooked 7 Japanese dishes under the guidance. The food is authentic and delicious. We talked a lot about cooking, culture, and travel. The instructor was knowledgeable and patient, making the whole experience enjoyable and educational. Each dish was explained in detail, and we learned many new techniques and tips. The ingredients were fresh and high quality, which made a big difference in the taste of the dishes. The class was well-organized, and the pace was just right, allowing us to enjoy the cooking process without feeling rushed. It was a wonderful way to spend the day, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Japanese cuisine or looking for a fun and unique activity. I'll definitely be coming back for more classes in the future!

Fun and Informative for all ages - AMAZING! This was loved by our pre-teen, teen, and parents. The ladies running the class were so welcoming and warm. We learned a lot and loved trying all the food we made. The class takes place in a quiet neighborhood in what looks like an apartment building. The directions on how to get there included pictures and was very helpful. The class was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone when in Tokyo.

Great cooking class! - My 12 yr old daughter and I had so much fun in this cooking class! We got to learn to make so many different dishes, and enjoy eating them all at the end. And the women who taught the class spoke English really well, and were very nice! I have done several cooking classes in different countries, and this was the best one I've done so far!

Excellent hands-on Japanese cooking classes in Shinjuku, Tokyo - This was a marvelous, hands-on experience of Japanese cooking. We did the Wagyu course, which involved preparation of a multi-course meal with Wagyu beef at the centre of it (although all of the dishes were superb). The teachers were excellent, fully fluent in English, and the staff looked after all the prep, service, and clean up. The teaching area and equipment were well set up and the teaching staff and prep folks could not have been more pleasant and helpful. At the end of the class, we got to eat the meal that we had prepared and were astonished at what skilled Japanese cooks we had become! ;-) If you're looking for a good, hands-on introduction to Japanese cooking in several styles, I highly recommend Cooking Sun. Be aware: the school is a bit hard to find, on a side street in the Shinjuku area, so hold onto and pay close attention to the instructions they send you on how to find the school.
