- National Palace Museum - Begin the tour by meeting the guide at MRT Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station, then take a short ride to the first destination of the full-day Taipei tour: the National Palace Museum, one of the largest museums globally.
With an impressive collection of nearly 700,000 ancient Chinese artifacts and artworks, the museum presents 8,000 years of Chinese art history across various dynasties. Among the most renowned pieces are “the Jadeite Cabbage” and “the Meat-Shaped Stone,” which are must-see exhibits at the National Palace Museum.
- Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall - The next stop is the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, a grand monument honoring the late President Chiang Kai-shek. Visitors can witness the changing of the guard ceremony, which occurs every hour on the hour from 09:00 in the main hall.
- Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Park - Besides the impressive main hall, the beautiful Chinese garden surrounding the building and the expansive plaza are also worth exploring. Early morning visitors might see people practicing Qigong.
- Longshan Temple - The tour continues with a visit to Longshan Temple, where locals pray for good fortune or seek inner peace. Here, visitors can learn about Taiwan’s religious beliefs and practices.
Built in 1738 and dedicated to Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy), the temple was heavily damaged during the Taipei Air Raid, yet the statue of Guanyin remained intact. In addition to the Goddess of Mercy, the temple honors Yue Lao (the Matchmaker God), Wenchang Dijun (the God of Literature), Songzi Niangniang (the maiden who brings children), and many others. Visitors can pray for themselves and their families and even seek guidance from the gods by tossing divination blocks.
- Ximending - After exploring significant historical sites in Taipei, visitors will have a good understanding of the city’s history and development. The next stop showcases the modernity and diversity of Taipei City.
Proceed to Ximending Commercial District, one of Taipei’s busiest shopping areas, filled with retail shops, restaurants, bars, and street performers. Popular among young people, it is often compared to Tokyo’s Harajuku’s Takeshita Street. (Lunch is self-arranged)
- North Gate - Following the Ximending Shopping District, the historical theme of the tour continues with a visit to Taipei City Wall-North Gate (Cheng’en Gate). This grand and impressive fortress gate is one of the five historic city gates in Taipei built during the Qing Dynasty, along with the East Gate (Jingfu Gate), West Gate (Baocheng Gate), South Gate (Lizheng Gate), and Lesser South Gate (Chongxi Gate).
- Dihua Street - After Cheng-en Gate, the tour visits Dadaocheng, a nostalgic area where tradition meets modernity. The retro cafes and stores in the streets and alleys enhance the nostalgic atmosphere, making it a popular destination for hipsters. The heart of Dadaocheng is Dihua Street, once the most prosperous place in Taipei over a hundred years ago. Even now, it remains a popular spot for shopping for dried goods and herbal medicines. Every year, the Chinese New Year Street Bazaar takes place on Dihua Street, attracting crowds preparing for the new year.
Today, the streets and alleys are lined with traditional shops, alongside chic cafés and mini art galleries housed in well-preserved historical buildings, creating a vintage vibe.
- Taipei Xiahai City God Temple - Situated in the historic Dadaocheng, Taipei Xiahai City God Temple is a centuries-old temple dedicated to the City God. It is a must-visit spot for those seeking blessings and cultural experiences. The most famous deity is Yue Lao, the Chinese matchmaker god, believed to help singles find love. The temple also hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, offering a glimpse into traditional Taiwanese culture.
- Yongle Textile Market - The tour passes by Yongle Market, Taipei’s largest textile market. During free time, visitors can explore an endless array of materials, from traditional Taiwanese prints to imported Japanese designs.
- Taipei 101 - The final stop of the tour is Taipei 101 Mall, a paradise for fashion lovers, located on the eastern side of Taipei. The mall features hundreds of fashionable stores and restaurants, along with a food court and a supermarket. From luxury brands to fast fashion retailers, and from Michelin-starred restaurants to affordable eats, there is something for everyone.
The iconic skyscraper, Taipei 101, stands adjacent to the mall. Once the tallest building in the world, it reaches a height of 508 meters, dominating Taipei’s skyline. The building has 101 stories, with an observatory deck on the 89th floor, offering visitors a panoramic view of Taipei City. Additionally, it boasts one of the top 3 fastest elevators in the world; traveling from the 5th to the 89th floor takes only 37 seconds.
At the end of the tour, visitors may choose to disembark at MRT Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station (arriving around 17:10) or Raohe Street Tourist Night Market (arriving around 17:00).
- Raohe Street Night Market - On the return journey to the meeting point, visitors have the option to be dropped off at Raohe Street Night Market.
