What better way to explore one of the most historic towns near Shanghai—still largely untouched by China’s modernization—than by having a local resident share stories about the history and development of this 2,500-year-old charming town? The operator, a lifelong Shanghainese, will guide the journey to Suzhou by bullet train (traveling at 180 miles per hour!) or by car (van). Known as the “Venice of the East,” Suzhou is located 60 miles from downtown Shanghai and has preserved much of its ancient architecture and population. In addition to exploring a stunning 700-year-old Ancient Chinese Garden, the tour will include a visit to the Suzhou Silk Museum, the birthplace of Chinese silk, which has been woven in Suzhou for about 3,000 years. After enjoying a traditional Suzhou lunch, participants will take a Suzhou-style gondola ride along the picturesque canals. Finally, they will savor tea from local tea farms while experiencing a beautiful tea ceremony, allowing for a deeper immersion into local life.
