The Bund - Your tour guide will meet you at the airport exit at 08:30 a.m. or upon your arrival. We will then head to downtown Shanghai. Our first stop will be the Bund.
The Bund is a renowned waterfront on the west bank of the Huangpu River and is considered a symbol of Shanghai. It showcases the city’s blend of historic charm and modern vibrancy, making it a must-see attraction. Here, we will admire 26 buildings of various architectural styles, including the Peace Hotel, Shanghai Customs House, the Bund City Sculptures, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. You’ll also enjoy views of modern skyscrapers across the Huangpu River.
Next, we will take a cruise to enjoy the scenery along the Huangpu River.
- Huangpu River - The Huangpu River separates two iconic areas of Shanghai: the modern skyscrapers of Pudong and the diverse architectural styles of the Bund. We will embark on a one-hour cruise to take in the light show and beautiful views on both sides of the river, including the Bund, the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Jin Mao Tower.
After the cruise, we will stroll along Nanjing Road, explore nearby communities, and visit the thinnest building.
- Nanjing Lu (Nanjing Road) - Known as the ‘No. 1 commercial street in China,’ Nanjing Road has long been a landmark of Shanghai. Stretching 5.5 kilometers, it features over 600 shops that attract around 1.7 million visitors daily. Here, you can find everything from affordable souvenirs to luxury brands. You can also explore the surrounding neighborhoods and see the thinnest building on Ningbo Road, known as the Paper Building. This unique structure, once featured in the British Daily Mail, appears as thin as a piece of paper when viewed from a certain angle. Despite its unusual shape, it houses many residents.
Next, we will admire the facades of several scenic spots around People’s Square.
- People’s Square - Located in the heart of Shanghai, People’s Square marks the division between East and West Nanjing Road. It is a bustling area with many attractions. We will visit several landmarks around People’s Square, including the new Municipal Government Mansion, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai History Museum, and the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall.
- Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan) - Situated in People’s Square, Shanghai Museum is a major museum of ancient Chinese art. Its design, featuring a round dome and square base, symbolizes the ancient concept of a round heaven and a square earth. The museum has eleven galleries and three exhibition halls, showcasing a wide range of Chinese art, including ancient bronze, ceramics, paintings, calligraphy, sculpture, jade, coins, Ming and Qing furniture, seals, and artifacts from minority nationalities.
- Hotel Park Hotel Shanghai - Park Hotel is one of Shanghai’s oldest hotels and was once the tallest building in the city. It serves as the central point of Shanghai’s urban coordinate system and is considered an architectural milestone that adds historic charm to the city’s dynamic landscape.
We will then walk to Yunnan Road, known for its great eateries, perfect for a quick bite. You will have some free time to explore the area and have lunch (at your own expense). Your guide will recommend some delicious local foods based on your preferences.
In the afternoon, we will explore Yuyuan Old Street, experience the traditional Shanghai atmosphere, and visit a classical garden and Chinese pharmacy.
- Yuyuan Old Street - Historically known as Miaoqian Dajie, Shanghai Old Street is a blend of tourist attractions, shops, entertainment, and cultural exhibits. It has a rich commercial history, being home to the city’s earliest bank, gold shop, jeweler’s store, wine shop, and tea house. Exploring the old alleys offers a glimpse into traditional Shanghai culture and the daily life of its residents. We will also visit Yu Garden, the largest of Shanghai’s ancient gardens.
- Yu Garden (Yuyuan) - Yu Garden, established in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan as a comfort for his father, is a classical Chinese garden. Although small, it features all the elements of a traditional Chinese garden, including pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds, and cloisters, each with unique characteristics. The garden is divided into six areas, each with its own distinct style.
