- The Bund - The tour guide will meet the group at the hotel at 9:00 a.m. From there, the journey to the Bund will commence, marking the start of the private Shanghai tour. The Bund, a renowned waterfront on the west bank of the Huangpu River, is considered a symbol of Shanghai. It beautifully showcases Shanghai’s allure as a vibrant metropolis that blends a rich history with a promising future, making it a must-visit destination. Visitors will admire 26 diverse buildings of various architectural styles at the Bund, including the Peace Hotel (Heping Fandian), Shanghai Customs House, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. The skyscrapers across the Huangpu River will also be a sight to behold.
- Waibaidu Bridge - Waibaidu Bridge is a romantic spot for couples and a popular filming location for many TV series and movies, attracting those with a nostalgic affection for old Shanghai. As one of the landmarks of old Shanghai, the bridge spans the Suzhou Creek at its confluence with the Huangpu River. It is the city’s earliest and largest steel bridge, extending from north to south.
Next, the tour will proceed to Shanghai Old City to explore Yu Garden.
- Yuyuan Old Street - Shanghai Old Street is a historic commercial street that combines tourist attractions, shops, entertainment, and cultural exhibits. Its unique social appeal and rich commercial history stem from being home to the city’s earliest bank, gold shop, jeweler’s store, wine shop, and tea house. Exploring the old alleys of Shanghai offers a wonderful opportunity to discover the city’s traditional culture and experience the authentic life of the Shanghainese.
- Yu Garden (Yuyuan) - The tour will continue with a visit to Yu Garden, originally built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan as a comfort for his father, Minister Pan En, in his later years. Pan Yunduan initiated the project after not passing an imperial exam, but his appointment as governor of Sichuan delayed construction for nearly two decades until 1577. Despite its small size, Yu Garden encompasses all the elements of a classical Chinese garden, including pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds, and cloisters, each with distinct characteristics. The garden is divided into six areas, each with its own unique style.
- Bird And Flower Market (South Xizang Road) - The tour will begin at the intersection of Tibet Road and Fangbang Road, in one of Shanghai’s many antique neighborhoods, also known as the cricket market. It is filled with flowers, bonsai, birds, fish, insects, and bustling crowds searching for their desired items. This market offers a glimpse into the daily life of locals.
At noon, the group will head to a local home in Caoyang New Village to learn how to cook Chinese food and make Shanghai Wonton.
- CaoYang FengQing - Caoyang New Village is a well-known community in Shanghai that warmly welcomes international visitors to experience the life of local Shanghainese. At the community center, visitors can observe cultural activities such as calligraphy, ping pong, and local handicrafts. It serves as a window for foreigners to gain a deeper understanding of the daily life of Shanghainese residents. The tour includes a visit to a local resident’s home, where, with the help of a guide, visitors can engage in conversation to learn about local life. The host will teach how to cook Chinese food and make Shanghai Wonton, followed by enjoying the culinary creations and exploring Caoyang New Village.
The tour will then proceed to People’s Square to visit the Shanghai Museum and learn about the rich history and culture of Shanghai.
- People’s Square - Located at the heart of Shanghai, People’s Square serves as the dividing point between East Nanjing Road and West Nanjing Road. It is a bustling area for exploration. Before 1949, the area of People’s Square and People’s Park was a renowned horse racetrack, built in 1861 and known as the ‘No.1 Racetrack in the Far East’. Visitors can still find remnants of the former main building in the northeast part of People’s Square. The tour will include visits to many scenic spots around People’s Square, such as the new Municipal Government Mansion, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai History Museum, and the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall.
- Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan) - Situated in the center of Shanghai at People’s Square, the Shanghai Museum is a large museum dedicated to ancient Chinese art. Its design and presentation immerse visitors in artifacts that reflect ancient wisdom and philosophy. The museum’s exterior, featuring a round dome and square base, symbolizes the ancient concept of a round heaven and a square earth. The museum is organized into eleven galleries and three exhibition halls, covering major categories of Chinese art: Ancient Bronze, Ancient Ceramics, Paintings, Calligraphy, Ancient Sculpture, Ancient Jade, Coins, Ming and Qing Furniture, Seals, and Minority Nationalities.
The tour will then move to Pudong to explore Shanghai’s financial district and visit the Shanghai Tower.
- Pudong New Area - As a vibrant and modern district, Pudong offers visitors a range of contemporary attractions, businesses, skyscrapers, and shopping malls, all showcasing the latest in entertainment, technology, and fashion. The tour will include a walk along the Lujiazui Ring Bridge, an excellent spot for photographing skyscrapers.
- Shanghai Tower - The Shanghai Tower, a new landmark and the tallest building in Shanghai, stands at a height of 632 meters. The 118th floor features an indoor observation deck, the world’s highest, known as the ‘Top of Shanghai Observatory’. Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibition hall on floor B1 before taking the express elevator to the 118th floor, which takes only 55 seconds, reaching speeds of 18 meters per second. From here, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Shanghai. There will be time to admire the scenery on both sides of the Huangpu River from the 119th floor. If the weather permits, a spectacular sunset may be visible.
Afterwards, the group will return to the hotel, wrapping up their memories and bidding farewell.
