The Bund - Your tour guide will meet you at the airport exit at 08:30 a.m. or upon your arrival. We will then head to downtown Shanghai. Our first stop will be the Bund.
The Bund is a renowned waterfront on the west bank of the Huangpu River and is considered a symbol of Shanghai. It showcases the city’s blend of historic charm and modern vibrancy, making it a must-see attraction. Here, you will see 26 buildings of various architectural styles, including the Peace Hotel (Heping Fandian), Shanghai Customs House, the Bund City Sculptures, and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. You’ll also enjoy views of modern skyscrapers across the Huangpu River. -
Waibaidu Bridge - Waibaidu Bridge is a romantic spot for couples and a popular filming location for TV series and movies, appealing to those with a nostalgic love for old Shanghai.
Waibaidu Bridge is a landmark of old Shanghai, spanning the Suzhou Creek at its confluence with the Huangpu River. It is the city’s earliest and largest steel bridge, stretching from north to south.
Next, you will stroll along Nanjing Road, explore nearby communities, and see the thinnest building.
-
Nanjing Lu (Nanjing Road) - Nanjing Road is known as China’s premier commercial street and has long been a city landmark. Along its 5.5 kilometers, you’ll find over 600 shops, attracting around 1.7 million visitors daily. Here, you can buy everything from unique, affordable souvenirs to luxury global brands. You can also explore the surrounding neighborhoods and see the thinnest building.
The thinnest building on Ningbo Road is known as the Paper Building (纸片楼). It was once featured in the British Daily Mail as possibly the world’s flattest and thinnest building. Viewed from a 30° angle, it looks like a piece of paper. The old four-story house is not entirely thin; it has a triangular polygon shape. Despite its unusual design, it still houses many residents.
Next, you will admire the facades of many scenic spots around People’s Square.
-
People’s Square (Renmin Guang Chang) - Located at the heart of Shanghai, People’s Square marks the division between East and West Nanjing Road. It is a bustling area for sightseeing.
We will see many attractions around People’s Square, including the new Municipal Government Mansion, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theater, Shanghai History Museum, and the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall.
Next, we will walk to Yunnan Road, known for its great little eateries, perfect for a quick bite. You will have some free time to explore the area and have lunch (at your own expense). Your guide will recommend some delicious local foods based on your preferences.
- Yuyuan Old Street - Historically called Miaoqian Dajie, Shanghai Old Street is a blend of tourist attractions, shops, entertainment, and cultural exhibits. It has a rich commercial history, being home to the city’s earliest bank, gold shop, jeweler’s store, wine shop, and tea house. Exploring the old alleys offers a glimpse into traditional Shanghai culture and local life.
-
Yu Garden (Yuyuan) - Later, you will visit Yu Garden, which was first built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan as a comfort for his father, Minister Pan En, in his old age. Pan Yunduan started the project after failing an imperial exam, but construction was delayed for nearly twenty years due to his appointment as governor of Sichuan.
Yu Garden is small but contains all the elements of a classical Chinese garden, including pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds, and cloisters, each with unique characteristics. The garden is divided into six areas, each with its own style.
Next, we will transfer to Pudong New Area and walk along Lujiazui Ring Bridge, a great spot for photographing skyscrapers and enjoying panoramic views of Shanghai from the Observation Decks of the Oriental Pearl Tower.
-
Oriental Pearl Tower (Dongfang Mingzhu) - Once the tallest building in Shanghai, the Oriental Pearl Tower remains one of the city’s most recognizable skyscrapers, visible from the Bund. The 1,535-foot (468-meter) tower features observation platforms, a glass-bottomed walkway, a rotating restaurant, and the Shanghai History Museum in its basement.
The Oriental Pearl Tower’s facade is a must-see during a visit to Shanghai. We will enter the tower, explore the Municipal History Museum in its base, take an elevator to the glass-bottomed sightseeing floor, and enjoy the views from the observation decks.
Afterward, we will transfer you back to the airport for your flight. Cherish your memories and bid farewell.
