Highlights

Santa Cruz & Baltra Islands

Baltra - After arriving at Baltra Airport in the morning, you’ll take a ferry across the Itabaca Channel, which separates Santa Cruz Island’s northern shore from Baltra Island. Then, you’ll board a private bus with other guests to head into the highlands, where you’ll learn about Santa Cruz’s unique ecosystems and biodiversity. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.

Highland View Galapagos - Post-lunch, we’ll continue by private bus to a reserve that’s one of the best spots in the archipelago to see giant tortoises in their natural habitat. You’ll easily spot these tortoises lumbering around, eating grass, and sometimes wallowing in small pools. The reserve also features several lava tunnels. After this, a short bus ride will take us to Puerto Ayora to board Yacht La Pinta.

Santa Cruz & Sombrero Chino Island

Santa Cruz - Eden Islet

After breakfast, a panga ride will take us to Eden Islet, off the coast of Santa Cruz Island, where you can see blue-footed boobies diving into the water, reef sharks, and frigates. There’s an opportunity to snorkel or ride La Pinta’s glass-bottom boat, weather permitting. The volcanic landscape here is stunning, featuring various volcanic debris, cinder cones, tuff cones, and semi-eroded lava flows.

Bartolome & Santiago Islands

Bartolome - This morning, we’ll visit the iconic Bartolome Island, a postcard-worthy Galapagos feature. We’ll disembark from our dinghy shuttle boats and climb a steep wooden staircase, where the view from the top is worth the effort! After the walk, we’ll take a dinghy ride around the colossal Pinnacle Rock. Then, you’ll have time to enjoy the beach and snorkel, or you can opt for a ride on the glass-bottom boat to view the underwater world.

Sullivan Bay - After lunch, we’ll board the dinghy to disembark at Sullivan Bay on Santiago Island’s east coast. This site features a white coral-sand beach, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. There’s also a trail over a lava field that flowed less than 100 years ago, offering a chance to see and feel the volcanic origins of the Galapagos while observing its wildlife.

Genovesa Island

Darwin Bay - In the morning, we’ll start exploring the island with a casual stroll to observe marine and land birds. There’s an optional walk over sharp lava and uneven terrain that offers dramatic views. Alternatively, you can return to the beach to swim and snorkel in this beautiful natural harbor. For the more adventurous, there’s an option to snorkel along the cliffs or paddle in sea kayaks.

Prince Phillip’s Steps - The afternoon begins with an interesting dinghy ride along the cliffs before disembarking at Prince Philip’s Steps, which start a steep but short climb up a wooden staircase. At the top, the terrain is flat, allowing for a mesmerizing mile-long walk to the other side of the island. Along the way, you’ll see large colonies of Nazca boobies, frigatebirds, storm petrels, and the elusive short-eared owl.

Baltra Island

Baltra - The journey concludes at Baltra Island, where you’ll transfer to the airport for your flight back to the mainland. Baltra’s flat terrain, due to its tectonically uplifted origin, was the reason it was chosen as the site for an airport in the 1940s.

Starting 2024 with an incredible Galapagos expedition about Yacht La Pinta - My son and I spent about 10 days in Ecuador this New Years. I started the process by discussing with Melissa at Metropolitan about my needs and what I was looking for and she more than delivered! She was extremely helpful and worked with my schedule, especially since this was so close to school starting up again. We ended doing 2 days in Quito, then 5 days aboard La Pinta, followed by 2 days in the Mashpi Reserve. The entire experience, from booking, traveling, transfers, dining, everything was executed perfectly. Everyone involved in this experience was incredible. I could not have imagined a better experience. After two days in Quito, we boarded La Pinta to start our Galapagos Adventure. The staff aboard La Pinta was exceptional, as was the food. We especially loved all of the animal "roommates" we'd find in our cabin after each excursion. Whenever we got back from an excursion, the first thing my son would do is rush to the cabin to see what fantastical creations awaited us inside. All of the guides that accompanied us were extremely attentive and engaged. My son had a great time asking questions and getting involved. After leaving La Pinta and making back on land, we headed to the highlands into the Mashpi Reserve cloud forest. What an incredible place! Again, food and staff were exceptional and our guide was amazing. I cannot believe how well he was able to spot creatures, both day and night. We did a night hike to look for frogs and boy, did we find them. The highlight was being able to see a glass frog in person. On our last day, we did a river hike, which was quite fun. We got to "shower" under a waterfall and wade through thigh-high water. Overall, this was an incredible experience for my son and me. Metropolitan's handling of all logistics and internal travel/transfers made this trip extremely easy for me as I didn't have to think about anything other than having a good time. Everyone at Metropolitan or affiliated with them, from the booking process, the staff onboard, the drivers, the reserve staff at Mashpi, was incredibly helpful and attentive. Yacht La Pinta was probably the perfect size--not too big and not too small. The boat was clean and the cabins spacious. We also enjoyed getting to know the other guests on the boat and hopefully made some new friends.

Exceptional service and intimate experience up close with the wildlife/marine life - The best part of our trip was the knowledge of the naturalists and the attentiveness of the staff and crew. The food was exceptional and varied. A new fresh juice and a cocktail of the day! We never had the same meal twice. Going with a small group made every excursion special and intimate. We learned more during those 5 days than I had in years. It was both educational and fun. The ship was pristine and well maintained. We felt safe and our accommodations were spacious and luxurious.

Incredible Galapagos Experience! - My family of 5 adults had the perfect Galapagos experience on the La Pinta. Our trip was fantastic, the ship immaculate and well appointed, the staff incredibly warm and engaging, and the naturalists knowledgable, approachable and excellent guides to take us through the islands. Metropolitan Touring did a great job with all our logistics and arrangements, there was never an issue and it all went seamlessly from landing in Quito to the end when we departed Ecuador. We were well taken care of, pampered and yet allowed to have as much personal space and time as we desired. I highly recommend Metropolitan Touring and the MY La Pinta!

The Best Travel experience - We had an amazing time on our trip to Galapagos with Metropolitan Touring. The attentiveness of the staff and crew on the boat and at their hotel Finch Bay was excellent. The experience was incredible for adults and children. I would recommend La Pinta and Metropolitan Touring for travel to Galapagos and Ecuador in general.
