Highlights

Baltra and South Plaza Islands

Baltra - Upon arrival in Baltra, we will immediately transfer to the nearby dock to board Yacht La Pinta. After an introductory briefing onboard, you will participate in an emergency boat drill, be assigned your cabin, and then be invited to lunch. We will set anchor and embark on our next adventure.

South Plaza Island - The turquoise waters of the channel here contrast beautifully with the white sand beach and volcanic rocks along the shoreline. A carpet of scarlet-colored sesuvium succulents lies at the base of a large cluster of luminescent-green prickly-pear cacti. Yellow-greyish land iguanas crawl around this entire scene. Along the coastline, we will walk past sea lion colonies while seabirds play along the cliffs of this small but spectacular island.

Santa Fe and San Cristobal Island

Santa Fe Island - We take the dinghy from Yacht La Pinta to this idyllic white-sand beach populated with colonies of sea lions. Galapagos hawks are often easily observed here, typically perched atop the salt bushes. The brilliantly yellow Santa Fe land iguana, which is exclusive to this island, might also be spotted during the walk. After the walk, you can choose to swim and snorkel along a natural wave barrier.

San Cristobal Island

Punta Pitt - This morning, we land at the eastern tip of San Cristobal Island. The trail that ascends from the beach offers spectacular views of the shoreline, allowing guests to observe frigatebirds and a colony of bachelor sea lions. After the walk, you will have the chance to swim along the beach and snorkel, weather permitting.

Cerro Brujo - After lunch, a dinghy ride along the shores will take us to Cerro Brujo’s expansive, white coral beach. This is a great site for walking, with rewarding birdwatching opportunities featuring plenty of seabirds and shorebirds. Galapagos sea lions will also be present. Historical Fact: These are the same shores that Charles Darwin walked along in September of 1835.

Española Island

Punta Suarez - The morning outing at Punta Suárez offers an exciting walk across lava terrain to visit the unique seabird colonies in this area. Waved albatrosses (visible from April until January), boobies, swallow-tailed gulls, and the famous “blowhole” geological formation await! Also, keep an eye out for the red-green-black marine iguanas! Many consider this site one of the best in all Galapagos. Afterwards, we will return onboard for lunch.

Gardner Bay - In the afternoon, we will disembark at this beautiful, white coral beach for a short walk to observe the sea lions, mockingbirds, and finches. You can also choose to simply enjoy the beach. There is great snorkeling in this area. Alternatively, you can opt to kayak or take a ride aboard our glass-bottom boat.

Santa Cruz and Baltra Islands

Charles Darwin Research Station - After disembarking at the Puerto Ayora docks in the morning, we will visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and check out the breeding program for giant tortoises. You will also get a good sense of the efforts and progress made by the Foundation and National Park in terms of conservation. Afterwards, we will take a bus across Santa Cruz Island to the opposite coast. Once there, a short ferry ride will take us across the channel to Baltra Island and then to the airport. This Galapagos journey ends at Baltra Island, where you will board your flight back to the mainland. Baltra’s flat substrate (due to its tectonically uplifted origin) is why this island was chosen in the 1940s as the site for an airport.

Additional Information

We’re thrilled to welcome you on this exploration of some of the Galapagos’ most stunning islands. Our shared journey kicks off on Baltra Island, previously a WWII military base, now an active station for the Ecuadorian navy and air force. Once all procedures are finalized, we move east following North Seymour and Santa Cruz Islands’ volcanic coastlines until we arrive at the Plazas Islands. The adventures begin with a dry disembarkation at a human-made dock on South Plaza Island. The following day, we’ll take a deep dive into Santa Fe Island and San Cristobal Island, the latter being the provincial capital of the Galapagos province. Subsequently, we set sail to the south towards Española Island, boasting the well-loved visitor hotspot, Punta Suarez. There, you’ll trek across a rocky coast teeming with marine iguanas, sea lions, various sea birds, and even albatrosses for a significant part of the year.

A trip of a lifetime - A trip of a lifetime. It was well- organized from arriving in Ecuador to flying to Galapagos and back home. The tour of Galapagos was amazing and well-documented by Metropolitan who sent all of their professional photographs after we arrived home. We were treated very personally with all of the staff knowing our name and room number. A tour of Quito was included on arrival day. Our guide, Kathleen, was amazing. She showed us the sites of Quito that we could not have seen on our own.

A great family adventure!!! - This was an awesome interactive cruise with daily activities to include deep water and beach snorkeling, kayaking, a glass bottom boat if snorkeling is not in your forte, hiking, daily briefings and informative lectures with a staff who couldn't wait to help you with whatever you might need. The nature guides were all superb. Not to mention the excellent dining experiences!! This tour allowed us to see 12 of the "Big 15" wildlife observation goals. We will definitely consider returning to complete our Galapagos tour with the western and northern islands on the La Punta!

Enchanted trip to the enchanted isles - Metropolitan Touring has been in business over 70 years and they know. Three women worked with Melissa Altamirano, who is charming, efficient and responsive. We spent several days in Quito before the cruise started, and she arranged airport transport, and a hotel, which was useful since we arrived on a redeye in the middle of the night. All the staff we dealt with were charming and efficient. The food was excellent and everything ran like clockwork. As a non-– Spanish speaker I was a bit concerned about using a foreign company. Metropolitan is completely bilingual – Spanish and English. Save yourself a bundle of money and use Metropolitan Touring for your Galapagos cruise For the same or a superior experience.

Superb Organisation - The Galapagos cruise was one element of a 3 week tour that Melissa at Metropolitan organised for me. Every element went superbly well and I couldn’t fault the organisation and people that were involved across the whole trip. The rain forest, Galapagos and Machu Pichu were amazing and nothing disappointed.

Fabulous and unique holiday - This was a holiday that will always be remembered for all the right reasons. The boat trip was fantastic in every aspect. The crew, the guides the food, the cabin - all excellent. Of course the wildlife and the islands themselves were stupendous. Our group was reduced because of the political situation but the 13 of us on the boat all got on so well, so that all expeditions and mealtimes were lots of fun. The organisation behind metroTours was accessible at every point when needed and responded to all our questions about the trip very quickly. They guided us through from pick -up at Quito airport to catching return flight to Quito from Baltra. We would recommend MetroTours to anyone thinking of going to Ecuador and the Galapagos.

An absolute bucket-list paradise! - The adventure started the moment we stepped on board, with a warm welcome from the crew and a cabin that felt like a cozy haven. The daily excursions were like a dream, from snorkeling with playful sea lions to hiking through otherworldly landscapes. The guides were not just knowledgeable but passionate about the unique ecosystem of the islands. And the food? Surprisingly gourmet for a small ship, with fresh seafood that made my taste buds sing. But what truly sets this cruise apart is the sense of being immersed in the untouched beauty of the Galápagos. The intimate, small-ship experience allows for up-close encounters with wildlife and an appreciation for the pristine environment. It's not just a cruise; it's a journey that connects you to the wonders of nature and leaves you with a profound love for these enchanted islands. If you're looking for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, Yacht La Pinta's Galápagos cruise is it! 🚢

Nice service, old boat - This is an old boat which leads to quite a choppy experience when sailing. The cabins are very basic with little attempt to make them pleasant. We did a six day tour and it was too long, a number of the excursions were repetitive. Restaurant food is ok but nothing memorable. If you are used to high quality cruising then this is not for you. On one day we were dumped at a hotel for three hours waiting for a tour. Not what I came to Galapagos for. On a positive, we saw great wildlife and nothing went wrong and most staff were excellent, I must mention: Kathy the lead guide who was superb Roberto in the restaurant who always had a great welcome for us. Pedro our great cabin assistant

3 1/2 out of 5 - Firstly this is not a 5 day trip - you arrive on the boat just before lunch on day 1, day 5 you disembark at 6.45 so this is a 3 1/2 day cruise just to be clear. The staff are without exception fabulous!!! Pedro servicing our lovely cabin and Roberto looking after us at our delicious meal times lead the way. The food is all super tasty - buffet breakfast and lunch and you choose your 3 courses for dinner. The boat itself is really nice, lots of places to sit and chilll, coffee station, jacuzzi and gym. The excursions were ok… this is what we came for and the guides did a really good job with explanations .. as did the panga drivers but we had 3 beach excursions and they were all very samey….. the itinerary was not what it said on the web site. Española island was out of bounds because of bird flu and the tour company - Metropolitan had known about it since September 2023 and failed to inform us so they tried to fill the tine up - including a lecture on board - not great when you’re paying thousands of pounds… they added kayaking - again not saying kayaking isn’t fun but can be done anywhere - you are paying top dollar to see these unusual remote islands and their wildlife not beach trips, kayaking and lectures…. Having said this some bits of the excursions were good, nothing was remotely wow but because of the staff, boat, food and the other guests that we met we did enjoy it but nothing to wow about - doesn’t come close to anything wildlife or scenery wise in many other places..
