- Zahara de la Sierra - Traveling southeast from Seville, we arrive at the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park in Cadiz province, known for having one of the highest rainfall levels in the Iberian Peninsula. This region, recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, is home to one of Europe’s most stunning forests, the pinsapar. The pinsapo (Abies pinsapo), a type of spruce that survived the last ice ages, thrives in the cool, moist areas of this mountain range, with forests like the Sierra del Pinar in Grazalema still intact. Our first stop is Zahara de la Sierra, where we can stroll through its charming streets, enjoy the breathtaking views from its viewpoint, and perhaps have a snack before continuing our journey.
- Setenil de las Bodegas - From Zahara de la Sierra, we proceed to Setenil de las Bodegas, famously known as the impregnable village. Here, visitors can marvel at the houses built into the rock, savor the local wines, and indulge in the delicious cuisine of Setenil.
- Ronda - The journey concludes in the magnificent Ronda, a city of Celtic origin and one of the oldest in the West. In Ronda, we will explore iconic sites such as the Alameda del Tajo, the Bullring, and the New Bridge, which divides the city into two sections. There will also be free time to visit additional monuments, explore the shopping district, and select a delightful spot for lunch from the numerous bars and restaurants available.

Beautiful cities and great guide - We can’t say enough wonderful things about this tour and our exceptional guide, Carlos. He picked us up right by our hotel and after stopping for a snack and coffee at a local shop, we went on our way to Zahara.
It’s hard to describe how beautiful the white village is, nestled on a mountainside overlooking an enormous reservoir and pastoral landscape. It feels like something out of Lord of the Rings.
After that, Carlos took us to Setenil. He was full of helpful suggestions on where to eat and what to see/do. Parking was limited to he waited with the vehicle while we explored for an hour. Very cool city with several homes and businesses built into a rock face. Again, stunning views.
Finally, we travelled to Ronda, which boasts one of the most spectacular bridges and canyons I’ve ever seen. It is worth making the trek down to the Arc of Christ viewing area (free), which offers a spectacular vantage point without much in the way of crowds.
This tour is a must do if you’re in Seville, and Carlos was a kind, affable, and knowledgeable guide who bent over backwards to make the trip one to remember.

White city visits should be on your agenda - We found the villages on this tour to be quite different from other parts of Spain we’ve visited, including Santiago de Compostela, Madrid, Seville, Valencia, and Barcelona. That contrast made the experience interesting and worthwhile in its own right.
We really enjoyed wandering through the villages—the atmosphere, scenery, and slower pace made for a pleasant and memorable day. However, we felt the experience could have been much richer with more input from the guide. We were hoping for stories, historical context, and insights to bring the places to life.
Unfortunately, the guide mainly functioned as a driver, transporting us between locations rather than actively guiding us through them. While the logistics were smooth, this was a bit disappointing, as it felt like a missed opportunity to deepen the experience.
Overall, a lovely visit to unique villages, but one that would benefit greatly from a more engaging and informative guiding approach.
