- Imjingak Pyeonghoa-Nuri Park - Visitors can view the Freedom Bridge, Monument of Soldiers, Bell of Peace, and an old steam locomotive that highlights the tragedy of the Korean War.
- The Third Tunnel - Constructed by the North Korean Army to infiltrate South Korea in the 1970s, visitors can walk approximately 500 meters into the tunnel wearing safety helmets. Afterward, there is time to explore the DMZ Exhibition Hall, which showcases the Korean War, old weapons, and a short film about Korea’s history and other information.
- Dora Observatory - A key attraction in the DMZ, Dora Observatory offers views of North Korea’s propaganda village through onsite telescopes.
- Gloster Hill Memorial Park - Known as “Gloster Hill,” Hill 235 is where the 1st Battalion, the Gloucestershire Regiment (the Glorious Glosters) was ordered to “Hold on where you are.” The memorial is located at the base of Gloucester Hill beside the Seolmacheon stream. A memorial garden on the east side of the stream features a large sculpture of the Gloucester’s beret, life-sized Gloucester soldiers patrolling away from the Imjin River, and a memorial wall. Gloucester Bridge crosses the stream, and a path leads to steps that take you to the memorial stones set into a wall on the hillside.
Four plaques on the original memorial still display the crest of the United Nations, the badges of the Gloucestershire Regiment, and the Royal Artillery. This park is popular among local Koreans. According to Lee In-jae, the mayor of Paju who raised funds among local citizens to expand the park, “Freedom is not free – it is earned with blood.”
- Gamaksan Chulleong Bridge - The Gamaksan Suspension Bridge, located 1.7 kilometers from the Gloucester Hill Memorial, is also known as The Gloucester Heroes Bridge. The regiment’s insignia is displayed on a marble-effect wall at the start or end of the bridge, depending on the direction of the walk. It is one of Korea’s longest suspension bridges, measuring 180 meters in length. It was a fierce battlefield during the Korean War. After a short 15-minute hike, visitors reach a great viewpoint on Mount Gamaksan.
Gamaksan is listed among the BEST 100 Mountains in Korea, rising 675 meters above sea level. It is often described as the ‘closest mountain to the DMZ’ and is likely the most popular hiking destination near the DMZ. Gamaksan is near the ceasefire line, so upon reaching the peak, one can see the Imjingang River and Songaksan Mountain in Gaesong.
