I chose to do Asa 105 when I realized I didn’t have enough information from my experience to do coastal nav without a chart plotter. The class has given me those skills.

The instructor, Capt Lucy Newman, was very patient and thorough in teaching the material. She offered to stay additional time to explain the exercises in the text book.

Craig is an awesome instructor that adds to what we have learned in the book materials. Craig is very good at showing us how to work the navigation problems in a way that makes more sense. I had Craig on the 103/104 classes as well. With Craig and the friendly team there at South Coast Sailing, you cannot go wrong in furthering your sailing education! Thanks, Frank Clark

This class was very difficult for subject matter that was really hard to understand, but captain Craig made it as simple as it possibly could be and create an atmosphere of learning that was really effective. We were able to pass because of Captain Craig‘s efforts and his awesome teaching style.

This class should be two weekends, One weekend to go through the course material and beginning exercises and the second to finalize and take the test. There should be some explanation to the learning of charting and Navigation that consist of more than 1 day. Capt Craig did an excellent job in explaining the concepts, just the next day is not sufficient and time to go away and practice should be included. Otherwise in preparing for the course, there should be a series of brief online reviews prior to the class for charting concepts and things to understand.
