A recommendation for those interested in railways - The museum is easily accessible directly in Schaerbeek station. The old station building forms the entrance to the museum and you can see the beautiful Schlaterhalle with the equipment of the old railway counters. Next to it are 4 large halls, where locomotives and carriages from different eras are displayed, some of which can also be walked. The vivid is supplemented with information about technology or life (for example, a living room of a train guard family). The museum notes that ES is new, ES follows modern museum pedagogy, uses visual and acoustic effects, ES seems a bit much better in some places, especially because it is simply too dark. The museum is beautiful and due to the good representation of the exponent you can spend quite a while in it. Other railway museums are significantly larger and still have a large outdoor area with locomotives and carriages (e.g. Nuremberg) but a less appealing presentation than here in Schaerbeek. Overall a very worthwhile museum.

Must See - An amazing display of trains! It’s massive! The displays are well presented and covers the past and present of the railroads in Belgium and connecting countries. Two hours is really the minimum you’ll need to fully immerse yourself in the exhibits. If you like trains, this is a MUST! Even if you really don’t know about trains, this is the place to come!

Visiting Train World - Schaerbeek. - As a Belgian, the NMBS was my employer for more than 20 years, now as a retiree I wanted to visit the "Train World Museum" during our visit to Belgium. I also had a discount on the entrance price. The Museum is more than worth a visit, and you can park right next to the station (paid parking). Train World is a railway museum in Schaerbeek, and the official museum of the National Railway Company of Belgium (NMBS/SNCB). Situated in the preserved buildings and in a new shed. Although scheduled to open in 2014, its opening was delayed until September 2015, when it was solemnly opened by King Philippe. The museum is over 8,000 square metres (86,000 sq ft) and displays 22 locomotives. It also displays 1,200 other objects, including an original 19th century railway bridge. One of the most important objects in the museum is the "Pays du Waes" steam locomotive, dating to 1845, which is the oldest preserved locomotive in continental Europe. It is more than just a guide for young and old.

Superb Day visit for all from Brussels - Really superb exhibition! Excellent atmospheric lights, sound and all round ambience. For Uk visitors, when compared to Swindon or York, this is definitely up there for both adults and children. Make sure you get the App loaded on a smartphone to listen to the commentaries - Erfgoedapp - it really helps. The exhibits and ability to get up close to it all is to be commended and makes a wonderful and worthwhile trip from Brussels - get a train from Brussels central to the centre (approx 10 mins & €2.50 each one way). Probably plan to take a snack with you as there wasn’t a cafe onsite when we went in Nov 24, but found a decent frites shop in the local area.

Recommend the visit to fill the day - Brussels doesn't have many places to visit. This could be a stop that makes you spend a few quiet hours even with children highly recommended. It's not like the one in Berlin, but still cute.

An interesting museum for everyone - A really large and diverse museum. Fascinating details, especially the original waiting room, which had a great presentation of digitalization. The museum is also suitable for younger children, as there were many things to try out for yourself.

Nice railway museum, however I am concerned about the way the Holocaust is addressed - A bit dark in places, it does have a lot of information about Belgian railways and trains. Interesting for children and families. Big HOWEVER - I was truely shocked at the way the trafficked people to concentration and death camps during world war two were talked about in the displays. Calling these "deportation trains" makes it sound like these people weren't actually normal Belgians, and blaming the "oppressor" and calling it a "gray" topic, when actually it should be a dark day in your history and a sense of deep shame to anyone who participated in the trafficking of Jews, Roma etc for the Holocaust. I think this is handled badly, and should be re-written with greater reflection.
