Awe-Inspiring Soba Experience - It was an amazing experience. Taku explained the process with details. My kids (13 years) also enjoyed the whole process. And the fresh soba was really tasty!

The most authentic and intimate cooking class! - This class was the highlight of my time in Sapporo! I had so much fun learning about the soba making process from Taku-san, and the final product was delicious! So was the shabu-shabu Mai-san helped prepare. We used a mix of simple Japanese and English to communicate, which for me made it even more fun and authentic. If (when) I'm back in Sapporo, I'd do it all again! Thank you so much!

The best thing you can do in Sapporo - First off, let me just say that Taku and Mai were absolutely amazing hosts/instructors. They really made the entire experience fun, enjoyable and educational. The location was easy to find. If you plan to rent a car like we did then there is plenty of parking in front of the building. The entrance to the workshop-by-night and soba restaurant-by-day is on the side of the building with a small set of stairs leading downwards. We were warmly welcomed as soon as we arrived and Taku got us washing our hands and aproning up within 5 minutes. He gave very easy to understand and clear instructions that made the class flow smoothly. He also gave plenty of demonstrations and his skill is pretty amazing to witness. Even better is it allows you the opportunity to roast your peers as you follow through. My partner and I became competitive as we started pointing out each others mistakes. What was great was that it also helped that Taku and Mai both had excellent humour as they laughed along too. We had a lot of fun during the soba making portion and I can’t recommend the experience enough. Afterwards, Mai serves the deer meat Shabu Shabu. She shows you all the tips and tricks to bring out the best of the food and she’s absolutely right. The meat was so juicy tender and succulent and goes so well with the sauce. The flavours are mild but so so delicious. Then the soba we had laboured over is bought out. Perfect consistency, chewiness and bite. Doesn’t matter if you’ve never cooked before, because Taku will be able to instruct you to make the soba and Mai will cook them to be the best soba noodles you’ll ever eat no matter how uneven you’ve cut them. We loved the experience in its entirety. My partner and I will definitely return again if given the opportunity, either for a soba making refresh or just to eat during the restaurant opening hours. I was honestly kind of intimidated at first, but Taku and Mai turned it into the most memorable experience of my entire Japan trip.
