Asahiyama Zoo closure dates: April 8 to April 26, 2024, November 4 to November 10, December 30 to January 1, 2025. If the zoo is closed, the itinerary will be adjusted to include Biei Mangrove (30 minutes), Shikisai no Oka (50 minutes), Biei Green Pond (30 minutes), and Shirasuga Falls (15 minutes).
Located in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, Asahiyama Zoo is Japan’s northernmost and most popular zoo. It offers unique displays that allow visitors to closely observe the animals.
(Enterprise Estimated launch date for the Goose Walk from December to March: enjoy watching penguins take a stroll at 11:00 am.)
When Asahiyama Zoo is closed, the tour will include a visit to Furano Wine, where guests can sample the local “Furano Wine,” crafted from regionally grown grapes (approximately 30 minutes).
-
Shirogane Blue Pond - From April 1st to November 30th, the tour will visit Blue Pond (about 30 minutes).
Blue Pond is situated on the left bank of the Biei River in Hokkaido. It was created by a dam built to block volcanic lava. The pond’s water reflects a blue hue under sunlight, giving it its name. Approaching Biei Blue Pond feels like entering a fairyland, with a mystical beauty often likened to Japan’s “Mini Jiuzhaigou.” Each morning, the water’s color becomes even more vivid and azure, offering a visual delight. National Geographic photographer Mr. Kent Ishii once captured the Blue Pond, and his photograph was later acquired by Apple Inc. as a default desktop for the MAC series. The pond’s water is rich in minerals and volcanic ash particles, causing it to display various colors as the environment subtly changes. Its ever-changing appearance is full of anticipation. - Shirahige Falls - The tour will visit Shirahige Falls (about 20 minutes) from April 1st to November 30th.
Shirahige Falls in Furano, Hokkaido, features a 30-meter drop and is situated at an elevation of 600 meters in the Biei-cho, Biei Onsen area. The waterfall is named for its water that flows through rock crevices like white beards. The water emerging from underground hits the rocks, creating blue-tinged splashes. Visitors can enjoy the striking contrast between the lush summer greenery and the snow-covered winter landscape.
- Popuri no Sato Herb Garden - While passing by HERB GARDEN, guests will be treated to complimentary Hokkaido specialty hot drinks (about 20 minutes).
Here, visitors can take a brief break, purchase Hokkaido-specific lavender souvenirs (such as sachets, essential oils, incense sticks, horse oil, and moisturizing creams), and savor the specialty cuisine - lavender ice cream.
-
Ningle Terrace - Ningle Terrace in Furano is a forest craft workshop inspired by a character from a novel by Japanese writer Soji Kuramoto (a 15cm-tall elf living in the great forest). The log cabins here are small shops offering unique handmade crafts, such as glass crafts, paper crafts, hand-painted pictures, and lavender-based crafts. Each shop is small yet exquisite, and the items sold here are exclusive, with no other outlets available. The lighting at dusk is particularly romantic.
Ningle Terrace Closure Dates: November 3, 2025, to November 28, 2025
