• Andes Mountains - Travel to a private, self-constructed observatory nestled in the mountains, 105 km north of Santiago. The journey is well worth it, with 260 clear nights annually and exceptionally dark skies, ideal for stargazing, even with the naked eye!

Your hosts will greet you with a traditional “once chilena” (a local version of tea), featuring homemade bread, tea, coffee, artisanal cheeses, and other delightful homemade sweet and savory traditional treats. Following the meal, an Astronomer will introduce you to the cosmology of Andean Cultures and the significance certain celestial objects held for our ancestors. Then, proceed to the tower (each structure here is designed to align with astronomical events), where you’ll learn to observe the negative spaces in the Milky Way (sacred to many ancient Southern cultures), and continue with telescope observations. The Astronomer will also discuss contemporary Western cosmology to provide context for the objects being observed.
