Some of the easily spotted bird species in Ecoparque El Espino include the Pacific Parakeet, Red-billed Pigeon, Berylline Hummingbird, White-throated Magpie-Jay, Squirrel Cuckoo, Gartered Trogon, Masked Tityra, Violet Sabrewing, Blue-throated Goldentail, Black-headed Saltator, Altamira Oriole, Gray Hawk, and Collared Aracari.

El Boqueron National Park, located on the dormant San Salvador Volcano at an elevation of 5,905 ft (1,800 m) above sea level, boasts a remarkable feature: a crater that spans 3 miles (5 km) in diameter and descends 1,830 ft (558 m) deep.
