Additional Information

It’s a barren land, a testament to a unique geological formation. Our forefathers named it Las Salinas, but nowadays, it is globally recognized as Valle de la Luna, encircled with distinctively beautiful landscapes that bear a striking similarity to a small piece of the lunar surface, hence the name. In 1982, it was categorized as a Nature Sanctuary, forming a part of Los Flamencos National Reserve where an incredible geological display can be witnessed particularly during sunrise and sunset.

During your trip, you can marvel at: the iconic natural structure once referred by our ancestors as Los Tres Watchmen, now referred to as Las Tres Marías, Duna Mayor, a sprawling mound of sand, and viewpoints like; Quebrada Honda which houses the renowned Piedra del Coyote (Mirador de Ckari).

Approximate altitude is 2,407 masl.

If you want to see the highlights of the Atacama Desert, this is the tour!? - A guide who speaks both Spanish and English will guide you through the best parts of the Atacama desert. It was great to see that each spot offered recommended photo spots and detailed explanations.

Fantastic tour! - Amazing tour! Left at 3pm and headed to the valley of the moon, words can't describe the sights. Our guide was very knowledgeable and did the tour back to front so we were alone at all the sights with no big crowds at all. Amazingz

100% recommended Whipala. - 100% recommended by the agency. I don't remember the name of the guide but very friendly and respectful to everyone in the group. He did another hike but it was completely worth it. Thank you also to Victoria and all the girls from the agency who went overboard, always giving the extra mile; getting sunblock or picking up the charger from a passenger who had misplaced it. I worked for go Chile and we were lucky enough to be assigned Whipala.

Valle de la Luna tour - I recommend this tour and especially our great guide Daniela C.! Speaking there languages Daniela told us a lot and could answer all of the group questions. The group was approx. 14 people. We did there stops in the Valle de la Luna park and then had a snack on the Mirador Likan-Antay to watch the sunset.

It’s like visiting the moon! - We had a very enjoyable day trip with this tour group. Our driver and guide was Daniel and he did an excellent job of narrating the tour in multiple languages! He had interesting stories on each of the stops and helped us find the best places to view each location. The company gave us clear instructions on meeting the tour bus and kept us informed about any changes.

One of the highlights of the area with a reliable company - I really appreciate the fact that the staff at the agency was so friendly and responsive. I texted them the morning of my tour as we were sick and the lady was very attentive and explained how the day was going to happen and how we could still enjoy our time ( I never asked for a cancellation just if we would be fit enough to go). Turns out we were fine and very happy with our tour. Our guide Ernesto was very friendly and spoke so many languages that was brilliant. The only reason I only give a 4/5 is because I was expecting to walk around more and enjoy the sights at my pace which is not the case. There are a lot of explanations ( and I have to admit I much prefer just being quiet in great landscapes) and there is actually no exploring the different areas, it’s all group time and lectures. But overall, the site is magnificent and the agency was very good. ( btw, very comfortable van).
