The archaeological site of Cañada de la Virgen is located just 25 kilometers West of San Miguel de Allende. Occupied between 540 and 1050 a.d., it is perched upon a small mesa surrounded by canyons and is made up of four patio/pyramid complexes, an ancient artificial pond and a ceremonial causeway covering the 16 hectares that is now government property. On this tour, you will get to explore this great site accompanied by a knowledgeable Coyote Canyon Adventures guide.
- You will walk a total of approximately 2 miles (3 kilometers) within approximately 2 hours in order for your tour to encompass all of the archaeological sites
- It is recommended that you bring a hat; sunblock; bottled water –although included; comfortable, well padded walking shoes or sneakers
- Note: No bags or backpacks will be allowed into the site. Small camera bags, cameras and water are OK. Bags can be left in our vehicle or with site staff at the visitor’s center
- A minimum of 3 people per booking is required
- Minimum age is 3 years

highly recommended and pleasant! - The tour was very well organized. We were provided with a guide in our language (Spanish) and everything was great. Luis Felipe was very friendly but above all, he had a lot of knowledge of both the archaeological area and San Miguel de Allende. On the other hand, the pace he proposed for the tour was according to our needs. I must not fail to say that the archaeological site is dazzling

Fantastic experience - do the tour and have lunch too! - Our guide,Jesus, was very personable, knowledgeable, answered all our questions and added great stories.
We went to the Rancho for lunch afterward (highly recommended) - delicious, organic foods - traditional Mexican cuisine (vegetarian) and very filling.
Do it, you won’t regret it!

Excellent Tour Company - Horatio, our guide, took us to Canada de la Virgen. An excellent tour with a lot information shared about this wonderful historical site.
Afterwards we had an excellent healthy lunch at an off the beaten track ranch (great hilarity ensued actually traversing the rutted road to get there).
Horatio, was charming and a wealth of knowledge on not just the pyramid, but also the surrounding area and San Miguel de Allende. Coyote Canyon Adventures was very accommodating and flexible with our time schedule. We'll definitely be back to sample the other tours they offer

A fantastic experience - Our tour was wonderful. From the driver, Rodrigo to our guide Eric at the ruins, they were so nice and very professional. We would highly recommend this tour and hope that you get these two gentlemen. A great experience.

Awesome visit to the pyramid!! - This was a last minute booking and truly was absolutely amazing! Our tour guide, Israel, was friendly and full of information! You can tell he enjoys his job. The Cañada de la Virgen was amazing to see and the views were amazing. Lunch at a small family ranch was perfect! It was everything we wanted to experience. It felt like having lunch at your favorite Tía’s home. I highly recommend.

Phenomenal tour full of culture and history! - This tour, although is full of walking is nothing short of amazing! The views and amount of information you take in is well worth the hike. It is an absolutely amazing experience to be able to view and enter into the pyramid site. Definitely wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle that you can carry as you will be walking quite a bit, and sunglasses and a hat because it is definitely sunny! Overall great experience and our tour guide Horacio was phenomenal!

Beware the "ranch lunch" - I took the tour as part of a girls' trip with some of my friends. We took the tour of the archaeological site in the morning, which I recommend, since there were not as many people present at that time. Our guide was knowledgeable and gave us information about the site itself along with a history of the terrain. After the tour we went to the "ranch lunch," which was not according to what was described. Instead of a picnic lunch at a ranch, the driver took us to a poverty-stricken settlement with no obvious running water or plumbing where we dined at a plastic table set outside of a family's cinderblock hut that had a chicken coop with a chained and emaciated dog and a goat. On the one hand, I applaud Coyote Canyon for trying to support a local family that clearly lives hand to mouth off of the eggs from the chicken in their yard and the milk from the goat they owned and I would hate to see that support vanish for them. However, my concern is that this practice will at some point get an unsuspecting tourist sick. When we arrived at the house, there was a bucket for washing your hands available, which indicated to me that there was no running water in which they washed the plates or utensils. The meal was already served at our seats, so we had no idea how long it had been sitting there. Most disturbingly, the food was covered with flies. The flies were so populous that it was difficult to eat. That being said, the family was lovely and gracious, and the quesadillas were delicious. But a ranch, it was not, and it was just too hard to get around the sinking feeling that one of us was going to walk away from this seriously ill.

Very Disappointed - Tour was canceled with no prior notice until we arrived at Canton Adventures at 9 am. The tour guide was supposedly in a traffic accident the night before and unable to make it - we hoped he was ok but learned no details. There was time to notify us, staff agreed, but no notification was sent. We were very disappointed since this was a much anticipated part of our trip.
