La Cueva del Indio is a captivating historical and natural gem in Puerto Rico, serving as a tangible reminder of the Taino culture and spiritual life. Situated on the northern coast of Arecibo, this cave is renowned for its petroglyphs, breathtaking coastal scenery, and archaeological importance. A 15-minute hike leads to the cave, where the entrance is narrow for about 5 meters, requiring good mobility to fully enjoy the experience. Inside, numerous petroglyphs are etched into the limestone by the Tainos, depicting human figures, animals, and abstract symbols.
From the cave’s carvings, visitors can head to the beach of La Poza del Obispo, a pool sheltered by uniquely shaped reefs. Here, one can relax and appreciate the beauty and freshness of the water.
