Our first time sea kayaking was wonderful. - The leader had great information and passion. They made decisions in real time, adjusting for the bigger waves. We were running behind and they ran our belongings back to the shop when we caught up with the group.

Perfect adventure - Very enjoyable experience. Tyler the guide was very communicative and helped us in paddling kayaks in the ocean and rough waters

Fun Nature Experience - This was a lot of fun! Unfortunately the sea was a bit rough the day we went so we couldn't go into the caves, but we were able to view them from close by on the water. The tour guide Roman was very knowledgeable about the area and about the environment in general (he is a lifelong San Diegan(?)). I mistakenly thought this tour would take us close to the sea lions so I was a little bummed about that, but that's on me! We saw some tiger sharks at the onset of the trip but not much else swimming around - possibly because of how the sea was that day and also because it was December. I will say this is not the same as kayaking on a lake, you definitely have to work harder to stay in the right place and to be mindful of the waves - but it didn't feel dangerous at all. Just a bit of work if you aren't used to kayaking. It was really cool to be able to be out on the ocean in December - the benefits of California!

Good considering the conditions at the time. - We were intimidated by the waves crashing on shore once we realized that we had to paddle out through the break and back. Not ideal for a December day, but we managed to stay mostly dry until getting doused by a wave at the end. We couldn’t go into any of the caves due to the conditions and only got close enough to see the silhouette of sea lions staring into the sun. All in all, it was a good workout. I would do it again in better weather.

Great Experience - Highly Recommend! - The views and the trip was amazing. Our guide Koya was very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. Unfortunately, the sea was too rough that day to go into the caves, but I still really enjoyed being on the water and the overall experience.

Do it. - Perfect sunny day to hit the water. While the waves of the ocean were a bit wild that day and we couldn't see the caves but still enjoyed the experience of being out in the ocean. Tyler was very helpful and knowledgeable, but it was a little difficult to hear him at times. Maybe using a microphone and speaker would improve sound while out on the water.

Boring and Cold - There was a lot of just waiting around. With about 30 people in the group and 3 guides it took a long time to get everyone launched and later to get everyone back on shore. We were told to arrive 45 minutes early which just meant more waiting. We didn't even get close to the sea caves; you can see them just as well from on shore. We saw some dolphins but no other sea life. The air and water were quite cool in December (upper 50's) but paddling kept me warm enough without a wet suit. However, I got cold during all the waiting around.

Meh - In retrospect, we should have realized that kayaking in January without wet suits would be freezing cold. That's on us, but the tour was difficult to hear, the group was too big, it was very difficult to keep the kayaks in a clustered group to hear the tour guides without banging into each other and we saw only a very limited amount of sea life (the shadows of a few leopard sharks, many cormorants and sea lions) most of which can easily be seen from shore. The weather wasn't right to be able to go in the caves either because the waves were too big and it would have been dangerous. It was overall just not a fun experience unfortunately. The tour guides were nice and from the bits I could hear, they were knowledgeable.

Not what expected - On the website no one mentioned that if the ocean was rough we would not be able to go into the caves. They told us that we woud get close to the caves but this was not true. We were very far away. All we did was kayak into the ocean an sit there listening to the gudes (who were very good) I got very sea sick from bobbing up and down. We rented wet suits which were very cold when we put them on. They also charge $7 for a small locker. After it was over we went to change out of the wet suit and I asked for a towel. She said they don't offer towels. Again, I did not read anything on the website that said be sure to bring your own towel. I was shivering and obviously ill and no one offered to help me.

A winter warning… - The guides were great and knowledgeable but be warned, winter waves and king tide means there is a high chance you don’t even go near the caves. This isn’t just a bad luck day, it is much of winter - if I knew that before the trip, I would have asked what % of trips in the winter get to go in caves (our guide said very few) and would have reconsidered. Also, the water is very cold in winter, so wetsuits (a $20 buy up option) is more a necessity than a nicety, so plan for that extra expense.
