Best Zoo! - This is by far the best zoo I have been to! Beautiful and well kept. Lots of amazing experiences and fun for all ages. The staff are truly passionate about the animals they care for and are very knowledgable and willing to answer questions. I wish I could shoutout the amazing staff in the giraffe feeding area and the butterfly garden! They were patient and wonderful with our group. My daughter and I went to SeaWorld the day before with our group and this was a much more enjoyable experience. They do not force anything on the animals and their love for them is truly seen. I would return to San Antonio again for this experience alone. Highly recommend!

Amazing - Our visit to the San Antonio Zoo was absolutely wonderful! The zoo is beautifully maintained and offers a great mix of fun and education for all ages. The animal exhibits are thoughtfully designed, allowing you to get close views while still respecting the animals’ space and natural behaviors. We especially loved the giraffe feeding experience and the butterfly garden — truly magical! The zoo staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to answer questions, which made the visit even more enjoyable. The variety of species they care for is impressive, and it's clear they prioritize animal welfare and conservation. The grounds are easy to navigate, with plenty of shaded areas, clean restrooms, and spots to sit and take a break. The train ride around the zoo is a must for kids (and grownups too!). If you're visiting San Antonio or live nearby, this zoo is definitely worth a trip. It’s a perfect day outing for families, couples, or anyone who enjoys nature and wildlife.

First time visiting - The zoo was nice and spread out. The zoo had a lot of birds, more than I’ve seen in any other zoo. They’re in the process of building some new exhibit. I would recommend getting there early. Also they have gone cashless, so I had to buy my ticket online.

Ice Cream Cone was the Highlight - We are retired and wanted to try something different on our anniversary. We mistakenly thought a Friday afternoon at the zoo would be a blast. Sadly, it was hot, crowded, and many of the animals were lethargic. There seemed to be a heavy emphasis on merchandise and catering to school field trips. Maybe we just picked a bad day, or prefer to see animals in their natural habitats. Regardless, we had a good ice cream cone.

BEWARE! SPEKBOOM LODGE - I am writing to express my profound disappointment, frustration, and anger regarding the unacceptable experience my family endured upon arriving at your facility on May 27, 2025. We traveled from Denver to San Antonio with our grandchildren, having paid over $4,000 for a stay/flight to Spekboom Lodge. This trip was meant to be a special, carefully planned family vacation. Our original booking was made in November 2024, and at no point between then and our arrival did anyone from your team inform us of any issue with our reservation, despite multiple attempts on my part to contact someone in advance of our stay. After a long day of travel, we were greeted by your manager, who personally loaded our bags, drove us to the room, and even helped us inside, only to then inform us, matter-of-factly and without a shred of sympathy, that we could not stay due to a “fire code” violation for having five guests instead of four. Her attitude was dismissive and cold, as if this situation was routine or insignificant. This was an extremely upsetting moment for us all, and especially for our grandchildren, who were devastated. We had spent months building excitement and planning every detail of this trip, only to be turned away at the last minute with no warning, no compassion, and no offered solution. To say this experience was unacceptable would be an understatement. The lack of communication, the poor handling by your staff, and the emotional impact on our family are inexcusable.

terrible customer service and ticket buying experience - We checked online and they offered pay for a day and have access for a year, went to the Zoo and was told at the front gate that tickets have to be purchased online, stood in the hot sun and purchased for tickets at $39 each expecting to have access for a year as advertised only to check email the next day a see it was only for that day, called Zoo customer service and was told by a nice representative that they would send us an email with the access for a year later that day, and now after a week still no email, also have emailed the Zoo and no response, the ticket purchasing experience is the worst, and website should mention tickets have to be purchased online.
