- Bus/Taxi to Haft Kul - The journey to the lowest lake, Nezhigon, at an elevation of 1,640 meters, is enchanting. Its name comes from the Tajik word for “eyelashes,” though the reason for this name is unclear. Nezhigon is famous for its vibrant colors, which change with the lighting and season, appearing turquoise, blue, or even purple, enhancing its charm.
- Khaftkul Valley - Soya Lake is named after the Tajik word for “shadow,” as it is nestled between high cliffs that keep it shaded most of the day. Like Nezhigon, Soya Lake’s water changes color with the weather and time of day.
- Khaftkul Valley - Gushor, the third lake, is 400 meters from Soya, and as you approach, you’ll see a lively stream connecting the two. All three lakes are called “watchful.” Gushor Lake is surrounded by steep cliffs and was once home to venomous snakes, which is how it got its name.
- Khaftkul Valley - Nofin, the fourth lake, is notable for its long shape, stretching over 2.5 kilometers in length but only about 200 meters wide. “Nofin” means “umbilical cord,” as it is the central lake among the seven and is very long, resembling an umbilical cord. Local legends about the lake’s secrets add to its intrigue. Enjoy a lunch break by the lake before continuing.
- Khaftkul Valley - Khurdak, meaning “baby,” is the smallest of the Seven Lakes. It is 1.5 kilometers from Nofin Lake, and along the way, you can glimpse the village of Padrut.
- Khaftkul Valley - Lake Marguzor is the largest and possibly the most beautiful of the Seven Lakes. The vast blue water against the majestic mountains creates a breathtaking view. Petroglyphs from ancient people have been found on the lake’s shore, and in the Middle Ages, semiprecious stones were mined nearby. Today, a small village is located at the southern end of the lake, with houses scattered on the surrounding slopes. Local legends and tales about Lake Marguzor add to its appeal.
- Seventh of the Seven Lakes (Haft-Kul) - Hazorchashma, the seventh and highest of the Seven Lakes, is at an altitude of about 2,400 meters above sea level. Its name, Hazorchashma (or Azorchashma), means “thousand springs,” as the lake is fed by two rivers and numerous streams and springs. Hazorchashma marks the end of the Shing River gorge, beyond which there are no more settlements, only the wildlife of the Fan Mountains.
- Jartepa Chegara Bojxona Posti - Travel to the border with a Tajik guide/driver, cross the Tajik border.
- Samarkand - Cross the Uzbek border and return to your starting point.
