This highly recommended excursion kicks off in the morning with a visit to the historic fishing village of Taqah, known for its charming houses. Discover the century-old Taqah Castle, which once served as the official residence of the Wali (Governor), and enjoy a panoramic view while learning about the region’s rich history.
The journey continues to the ancient ruins of Sumharam (Khor Rori), a UNESCO World Heritage site, which was a significant trading port connecting the Mediterranean, the Persian Gulf, and India.
Next, the tour arrives at the stunning Mughsail Beach, where, at high tide, waves dramatically crash through natural blowholes, sending water up to 30 meters into the air at the far end of the rocky beach.
From here, the route follows the coastal road towards Oman’s western border, lined with sheer cliffs and valleys where frankincense trees grow naturally. A short walk into the valleys offers the chance to experience the scent of the holy incense in its natural setting.
On the return journey, there is a photo stop at Mughsail Lagoon, a peaceful spot where migratory birds, including flamingos, can be observed.
