From there, you’ll walk for ten minutes to the Karongi Bus Park to catch a bus to Rubengera Center (included in the package) and begin your adventure on the Congo Nile Trail heading to Bumba Base Camp. This hike will take approximately 5 hours. Along the trail, you’ll enjoy agricultural activities, stunning landscapes, and the scenery around Lake Kivu.
Cyimbiri Base Camp to Kinunu
Kinunu Guest House - After breakfast at 7:00 a.m., you’ll embark on a 9-hour walk to Kinunu. During this hike, you’ll continue to appreciate the beauty of Rwanda’s rolling hills and capture photos of your adventure on the Congo Nile Trail. You’ll have a packed lunch along the way and continue your hike to Kinunu Base Camp.
Kinunu to Congo Nile
Kinunu Guest House - At 7:00 a.m., after breakfast, you’ll resume your hike towards Bumba Base Camp. This hike will take about 6 hours and will be easier compared to the previous one, although you’ll enjoy crossing a small river on foot. Along the trail, you’ll admire the beautiful rolling hills and the islands of Lake Kivu, and have a packed lunch en route. Upon arrival at Bumba Base Camp, you’ll check in and relax while waiting to enjoy your dinner.
Congo Nile to Rubengera
Les Chutes de Ndaba - After breakfast at 7:00 a.m., you’ll continue your hike towards Rubengera and proceed to Karongi (optional). On this day, you’ll hike through vast banana plantations. This tour will take about 5 hours, and upon arrival in Karongi, you’ll check in at Home St Jean, have lunch, and recover from your trip.
On your way, you’ll have a stop-over at Ndaba Waterfalls.
This 100m-high waterfall is a beautiful spot to stop. You’ll meet locals, especially children, who will share the legend of Ndaba’s honey and sing to you in exchange.
