Embracing the Arctic’s Cozy Indoor Escapes
Rovaniemi, the heart of Lapland, is a place where the Arctic’s raw beauty meets the warmth of its cultural heritage. As the weather turns unpredictable, with clouds gathering and rain threatening to drench the landscape, the city offers a sanctuary of indoor experiences that promise to captivate and inspire. On May 31st, as the morning sun peeks through the clouds, it’s the perfect time to explore the city before the rain sets in. But as the afternoon approaches, the allure of indoor activities becomes irresistible.
One such experience is the Lappish Cooking Class, available from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Here, you can immerse yourself in the culinary traditions of Finland, learning to craft the exquisite Lohikeitto, a creamy salmon soup that embodies the essence of Finnish cuisine. The class is held in a cozy cabin, nestled between two serene lakes, offering a picturesque backdrop to your culinary adventure. As you stir the pot, the aroma of fresh salmon and dill fills the air, creating a sensory experience that is both comforting and invigorating.
Great Experience, Awesome Salmon Soup! - What an experience to be able to learn how to prepare a traditional Finnish meal. Our host was truly amazing and very welcoming. We were picked up at our hotel and went to a cabin in the woods located on Tahtamalmapi lake. Our driver was filled with “fun facts” and was able to answer all of our questions. Our host surprised us with homemade blueberry pie and a variety of beverages for us besides the salmon soup we prepared under her guidance. This was a great afternoon and does not take up your whole day. Highly recommend this excursion.
The Art of the Northern Lights
As the rain continues to fall on June 1st, the city transforms into a haven for those seeking to explore its rich cultural tapestry. The Aurora Painting Workshop, scheduled from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, offers a unique opportunity to delve into the artistic traditions of the region. Set in a traditional Lappish house, this workshop invites you to create your own masterpiece, inspired by the ethereal beauty of the Northern Lights.
Guided by a local expert, you’ll learn to capture the vibrant hues of the Aurora Borealis on canvas, even if you’ve never held a brush before. The experience is not just about painting; it’s a journey into the heart of Lapland’s cultural heritage, with stories and legends shared by the housekeeper, adding depth to your artistic endeavor.
Magical & practical - We are very pleased with how our artworks turned out, even as not the most creative persons we’ve got the most sweetest memories in our hands & soon on our walls. The housekeeper was a heartwarming person who has an astounding talent for this kind of art & did wonderful explanation as well as some helping guidance. The food & drinks offered were lovely & tasty, & we want to say a big thank you again for all this experience!
