- We recommend that women do not use our bathing facilities whilst pregnant. However, it is an individual’s choice and we recommend that you seek advice from your health professional if you are wanting to bathe.
- Not recommended for travelers with heart problems or other serious medical conditions
- The minimum age for the Mud Bath is 2.5 years, and for the Sulphur Spa is 6 months.
- Children are considered those aged 5 -15. Under 4s are free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Hell's Gate is located just outside of Rotorua's city centre. From the city simply travel east on State Highway 30. At approximately 5 minutes past the airport, you will turn right towards Whakatane. Hell's Gate is 3kms down this road.

Relaxing mud pool experience - Absolutely fantastic experience! The staff were so welcoming, helpful and friendly and completely added to the whole experience. Came out of the mud pool and hot pools feeling completely relaxed. Highly recommend the whole experience!

Definitely a must - Hells gate was so amazing, had an awesome family soak at Hells gate. Enjoyed every moment, Big thanks to Tira for my very last minute booking really loved the energy from the staff. It absolutely made the hells gate experience more enjoyable :)

Hell's Gate, slice of Heaven - We were entertained and educated on the guided tour of the geothermal area and thoroughly enjoyed our visit afterward to the hot sulfur pools and mud bath. The staff was helpful and friendly. If you bathe, be prepared for yourself and anything you wear to smell of sulfur for several days, but it's absolutely worth it.

Worth it - My husband and I had a lovely experience. The mud was nice and the hot pool afterwards was very relaxing. We read previous reviews which warned about the sulfur smell hanging around so we packed old bathing suits to throw away at the end. Our skin did smell for a couple days but nothing too terrible. Was a cool experience overall

Loved it - Loved it, soo relaxing staff were nice, facilities clean and tidy, you can hire swimwear and towels as the sulphur smell is hard to get out of your clothing. Cafe and gift shop

Great experience - even in the pouring rain - Great walk around the thermal reserve. Swimsuits were provided if you were worried about getting your own swimwear dirty - all sizes & a great variety! The mud baths were so relaxing

Mud bath and walk the geothermal area - The walk around the geothermal site was excellent. You get a glimpse of the power of nature. They send along with you a paper describing the pools and such on the walk. Loved the carving at the end. After the walk was the mud bath and sulfur soak. Loved it!!! Everyone was friendly!!! I’d do it again in a second.

Great way to destress - Very enjoyable way to destress. It felt great to smooth on the mud and soak then wash off and continue to soak longer in the hot spring. Wish I could do it every day!

Mud Bath a Must Magnificant - Wonderful experience. Staff fantastic explained the process and how to best experience mud bath and sulphur baths. Cold plunge a good amenity but a bit small. Locker rooms are open minimal privacy. But you get lockers and can rent towels and maybe a bathing suit. Small gift shop and some snacks. Mud bath a must it is special and unique.
