Along the way, there will be several photo stops and interesting information about the island will be shared. Ascending to 2,789 feet and then descending to the lake provides a clear understanding of why the island is called the “Nature Island of the Caribbean,” with its lush greenery and untouched nature. It’s an excellent spot to relax, take stunning photos, and visit the resource center.
- Titou Gorge - Just a 10-minute drive from the lake is Titou Gorge. Swimming through this narrow gorge with steep walls for 8 minutes reveals a hidden waterfall. This location was featured in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and the specific section will be pointed out. Life vests are mandatory and can be rented on-site.
- Trafalgar Falls - A 20-minute drive from Titou Gorge leads to Trafalgar Falls. A 10-minute walk on a paved trail through the forest brings visitors to the viewpoint of the two waterfalls cascading side by side. Locally referred to as Male and Female, they are 125 feet and 75 feet tall, respectively.
- Wotten Waven Sulphur Springs - Just 10 minutes from Trafalgar Falls are the Sulphur Springs. The area is filled with volcanic activity and has a noticeable smell of sulfur. There are photo opportunities of hot boiling sulfur springs and steaming vents. A therapeutic bath at “Da Escape” Sulphur Spa will leave visitors feeling rejuvenated.
- Dominica Botanic Gardens - A 20-minute drive back along the same route leads to the city and into the Botanic Gardens. During a 5-minute drive through the gardens, various plants of interest will be explained, including the famous African baobab tree that fell on a school bus during Category 5 Hurricane David in 1979.
- Morne Bruce - A 10-minute drive from the Botanic Gardens brings visitors to Morne Bruce, situated above the city. This location offers a fantastic bird’s-eye view of Roseau and is a great photo stop. The area is used as a police academy, and visitors can see the ruins of the old garrison used by the British, as well as an old cannon.
