Big Bus pulled through in Rome! - After reading All the negative reviews, I was hesitant to book with Big Bus. However, I had no issues. If you want to guarantee a seat, go to the first stop. Grab the head phones and map at the front of the bus. The bus will drop off pretty close to the monument but for obvious reasons they are unable to drop off curbside at the Vatican, Coliseum etc. On NYE there was a marathon from 12-6p, but that did not cause any Traffic or delays with big bus routes. If you are unsure where to pick up the big bus, there are plenty of tour bus operators from various companies who are friendly and will show you where to go. Happy touring!

Long waits at each stops and infrequent buses - Sadly, there seemed to be very few buses running and we waited one time for 40 minutes for a bus to come. Another couple were using the App and it said the bus would be arriving in 1 minute but it stayed like that for 15 minutes! Also at each bus stop we seemed to wait at least 5-10 minutes. The worst wait was at Termini station where we waited 15 minutes. The route was good but the other bus companies seemed to run a lot more frequently.

Not recommended - Would not recommend Big Bus Rome. We waited about 45 mins at each pick up point while other companies came and went and we waited. Only 8 stops on Big Bus so a long walk between stops. Would suggest you go with another company or you will have to be ready to wait a long time for pick up.

Not the greatest experience. - This was not a good experience. We bought the ticket so we can get around, and we had to take Ubers due to the wait time. Other bus companies were timely but this one seemed to always run late and the drive was rude. He told us "last stop is Vatican at (a time I cannot remember)" and he by passed people waiting to be picked up and they were screaming at him and running to which some passengers said "he should at least let them know so they aren't running in the streets"

Choose another bus service! - We booked a package tour of the Coliseum through Big Bus as well as 24 hours of hop on/off through their website. We got to the corner of the bus stop at the exact time and the bus was pulling away. The bus driver saw us and pointed back to the stop. We waited 30 minutes while I checked the bus app which showed the next one as being 43-52 minutes away in red. I attempted to initiate the chat function on the app for options on our tickets and found out it does not exist. It took me to a "virtual assistant". A bus finally came and I attempted to explain our concerns about being late to our time slot at the Coliseum. I asked for our tickets and was given a printed slip with 2 QR codes as well as the bus tour one with an admonishment to not lose it or we would have to pay again. The bus also sat for quite some time at the other stops, unlike ours, which added to our lateness. We got off the bus and looked for Big Bus reps. There were none around. We noted the other buses providing a similar service came more frequently and had representatives to assist and answer questions. We found out our URL codes meant nothing at the Coliseum and Prison entrances. A long story short, I went online and ordered our tours directly from the Coliseum's office due to the very long line waiting to buy them at the Coliseum. Bottom line - we spent 146 euro total. When we got back on the bus to head home, it was more trashed inside than in the morning and the driver informed us we would have to get on another one if we wanted the full tour since he was ending at the train station. We did not want to take our chances on waiting for another bus and rode the current one as close to home as we could.

Employee behavior - Today, November 26, 2024, we had an incident at Big Bus with a company worker who behaved aggressively and disrespectfully toward my group. I never thought they would treat us that way in Rome, such a touristy city. The name of this "employee is Housim and he was located at Rome Termini.

AVOID! - AVOID AVOID AVOID! For the anxious folks or people on a time crunch... AVOID. I booked both the purple and red line with Big Bus over 2 days. For the Purple Line: The catacombs/purple line was fine... but a huge letdown because half of the sites are closed on Monday. I should have done my due diligence on checking entry times, but it's disappointing the driver dropped me off for an hour and a half, knowing it was closed. For the Red Line: While the off-season ticket was cheap... it was not worth the hassle. "Every 20 minutes" means every 40-60 minutes. The "live" times on the app were inaccurate and unreliable. The sales tactics are incredibly predatory... Even ticket sellers for other companies were frustrated with Big Bus. I booked this as a quick way to see the city in two days. I should have just figured out public transit or booked ANY other company.

Don't - absolutely awful - Have been on these kind of buses before in Athens and Barcelona and found them to be a really good way to get an overview of a city. Will think again before taking another after this. The Big Bus reps at the stop directed us to get on an Omnia bus. Never heard of Omnia but apparently a travel agency founded for Christian pilgrims. The commentary reflected this eg. comments about the Roman road network being important to the spread of the gospels. Otherwise v little info - absolutely rubbish. As a non-Christian found it quite insulting. In terms of the sights - saw as much getting a taxi from the station to our apartment, and some of the stops are a long way from what they say they are (eg. Vatican is 20-30 mins walk). We also spent 15 mins stopped at the railway station while other Big buses came and went, with no explanation. Absolute waste of €100. Will never use this company again.

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! All the others are better!! - Used this company to go around Rome but it proved useless, we were literally left stranded on bus stop 7 for almost an hour on Sunday 29th at around 1700hrs. During that hour around 15 to 20 buses from other companies stopped to pick up their clients which made it even more frustrating. We almost lost a concert! It was not the driver's fault but at least he shouldn't have lied and tell us that we were making up things. When in Rome again I will use other companies for sure.

Can’t find the bus - Very hard to find buses in Rome. Even with app we only found one stop. Metro is the best way to get around. We booked 4 days on the bus and didn’t use it at all.
