A fantastically fun and immersive way to experience the Appian Way and the acqueducts - This tour starts in a neighborhood somewhat near the Colosseum and takes you out of the walled city to the catacombs, on to the Appian Way, and then to the acqueducts, returning near the city to have lunch. I loved that it was so immersive - bus/van based tours are certainly great for covering long distances, but being on a bike for this kind of tour was a new experience that my family really enjoyed. We had never ridden e-bikes before and found it very easy to learn & get around on. (You do have to be comfortable riding a traditional bike in order to participate in this tour). The tour starts at the bike rental facility; our guide made sure we were all comfortable riding the e-bike and operating the motorized assist. The company provides a water bottle for each person, and there are many stops along the way to refill your bottle with fresh, cold water. The tour at the catacombs is provided by a local guide. The site that this tour stops at is massive and takes you through several of the papal tombs as well as several family tombs (in addition walking through columns of hundreds if not thousands of other tombs). The guide explains the history of how the catacombs came to be, what their relationship is to the Roman Empire & early church, why they fell into disuse, and the history of their later discovery and exploration. (The temperature is a welcome respite from the heat if it’s a hot sunny day, which ours was). The bike tour on the Appian way was also immersive and interesting. You see ancient estates, castles, and relics of the Appian Way itself (e.g., soldier guard stations, etc). It’s also just a beautiful scenic ride that goes through several parks, including out to the acqueducts. Our guide, Silvia, made sure to keep our group together, helped make sure we crossed safely while in the city and in the presence of traffic, regularly offered to take pictures of our family together, and chose great spots to stop, give us a bit of historical background, and just enjoy the beauty of the area. The ride finishes at lunch, which was delightful and refreshing. The food was not overly complex, but it was delicious. The tour covers about 12 miles total distance, according to our guide. Even with hills and so on, this is not at all challenging with the assistance of the e-bike. You can basically lightly pedal with little to no effort & just enjoy the ride. The vast majority of this ride is on paths and roads that are closed to automobile traffic, which is beneficial both from a scenic perspective, but it also reduces the stress of any concern for interaction with cars or motorcycles. We had the good fortune to have booked this tour on a Sunday morning. This was purely coincidental to our schedule, but it worked out very well for our family because traffic was very, very light during the portion of this ride that is on city streets (as compared to weekdays in Rome).

Trust the great reviews! - I booked this tour because of the great reviews and because it was something different to do to get us out of the city center and away from the summer crowds. This was an amazing tour and we saw so much! The e-bikes are a blast and we felt so safe navigating out of the city center. We did this tour at the end of June and it was hot but we made frequent stops which were always strategically in the shade and often near water fountains to refill our water bottles. It’s hard to impress teenagers but my 15-year old actually commented about how much fun he was having. If you have teens, do this tour!

Best Tour We Took in Rome! - Excellent! One of our favorite tours & experiences so far! My husband & I are in our early 40’s & 50’s and don’t exercise like we should. We’re out of shape but not incapable. But we were both able to easily do the whole trip no problem. The E-bike gives you the gusto you need to experience this living history that is away from the tourist fanfare of main Rome. It’s absolutely amazing. Iman was our tour guide and he was very very kind. They give you bottled water & lunch! If you during summer I recommend ladies wearing your bathing suit underneath your clothes to absorb the sweat because July in Rome is like Las Vegas HOT!!! You will sweat not because of the workout but because of the heat & humidity. It’s bearable but I found wearing my bathing suit underneath just kept me dryer and more comfortable! Definitely wear active wear for this particular tour. If you’re on the fence about this tour definitely take it! It’s totally manageable even if you’re not athletic & sit at your office job all day like we do. My husband has asthma & even he had no problem. It’s full of rich history you won’t otherwise get to see. It’s totally worth it!!

Great adventure in Rome! - Overall, this was a great excursion for our whole family (including two teenage boys, ages 13 and 15). Riding the e-bikes along the Appian way, touring the catacombs and riding along the aqueducts was such an interesting addition to our Rome visit. Many thanks to Bruno for sharing the history along the way, and expertly navigating through the busier sections of the ride.

Fun, educational, great change of pace from the city sights - This was such a fun change of pace from the hustle and bustle and crowds in the city. The only mildly scary part is riding the ebikes through the Rome street traffic but once we got into the suburban and countryside areas, it was quiet and felt very safe. We loved seeing the historical sites - the old roman gates to the city, the walls, an old villa, the appian road, and aqueducts. We also enjoyed the stop at the Catacombs - it was educational and interesting - great tour! The lunch was tasty and a nice change from pasta - it tasted like a homecooked meal. We stopped by the natural springs with natural carbonated water and got to taste that as well. The bikes were in great condition, easy to ride. Our guide (Tobias?) was fantastic! It was a nice change from the museums and churches - it was our kid's favorite activity in Rome!

Greek Canadians tour Rome on Bikes. - Excellent easy bike ride with electric motor help peddle bikes. Our tour guide Sylvia was very knowledgeable with rome history, very attentive and kept us safe. Safe crossings at traffic lights and use of bike routes and bike paths. Toured the catacombs and Saint Sabastian church. Toured the Roman Aqua Duct through the country farm side, and stopped at a country club restaurant for the most fresh baked and prepared appetizers. Toured back to the bike shop. Excellent 10 🌟 🤩

Highly recommend - great value for money! - Highly recommend doing this bike tour! Great value for money if you include Catacombs & lunch as well. So much history told and architecture seen. Our guide Filipe (apologies if spelt wrong) was excellent - so much knowledge and the way he told history stories made it very engaging. All travel on the roads were done very safely but a lot of biking was in quieter roads and tracks in parks.

Be prepared to be amazed... - Be prepared to be amazed at Roman history and ingenuity. The Appian Way, Aquaducts and Catacombs were such important pieces of history to see first hand. E-bikes worked great! Although it was very hot, 96+degrees, we were guided to fountains and able to replace water often. Our guide Philippe was the best! He was very knowledgeable and even looked up facts we asked about. A fun, and enjoyable experience! Only down side is that it’s not for those who can’t bike.
