With a switchback motion in a northwesterly direction, the climb proceeds through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. A magnificent sunrise awaits during a short rest here. Faster hikers may witness the sunrise from the summit. The final hour’s ascent to Uhuru Peak is likely to be snowy.
Congratulations, step by step, you have reached Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the entire African continent!
After photos, celebrations, and perhaps a few tears of joy, take a moment to savor this remarkable achievement. The steep descent to Mweka Camp then begins.
