An absolute must - Altun Ha is an absolute must-visit for anyone interested in Mayan history and culture! Our experience was made even better by our fantastic guide, Fabulous, who truly lived up to his name. He was incredibly knowledgeable, answering all our questions about the history, people, architecture, and significance of the ruins. Climbing to the top of several structures with him was unforgettable—he explained the importance of the Wind God, the Water God, and the burial grounds, as well as the fascinating history of the Jade Head. After exploring the ruins, we had an incredible time at the monkey sanctuary. The monkeys were playful and personable, coming right down to us for pictures as they were fed small pieces of banana. Though we didn’t pet them, it was amazing to see them so close in their natural habitat. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Belize! It’s the perfect mix of history, adventure, and wildlife. One tip—bring plenty of small US dollar bills, as every stop had snacks, drinks, and locally made artwork for sale, usually in the $2–$3 range. I didn’t bring enough, and I definitely wish I had!
