- Hólmsheiði - Our Amazing most popular! We ride in small groups and offer personal and friendly service! This tour is about 5-7 km, depending on the experience of the riders. It is suitable for beginners and for those with more experience as we can choose between routes in the area. We will either ride on a beautiful and smooth riding path along the Redhills or, for a group of more experienced riders, we will ride by Rauðarvatn. On both routes, you will enjoy natural riding paths and a wonderful setting for horseback riding where you will get to know the friendly Icelandic horse. Total tour duration is 2,5 hours,1,5-2 hours riding. for beginners and experienced riders.NOTE: We only have pickup from Hotels,guesthouse and BSI Bus terminal reykjavik.

So magical + easy even for a beginner rider - I was fairly nervous doing this as I have never ridden a horse before but the team at Solhestar is incredible! They know their horses so well and pair up people accordingly to experience. Safety and riding tips are not only given at the beginning but the instruction continues throughout the ride (very useful when going up and down). They also made sure to come up to those who were feeling unsteady or seemed uncomfortable. All those that wanted even got to experience tolt (a gait specific to Icelandic horses) at varying speeds! I love that they helped me feel so at ease, it seemed natural and I didn’t hesitate getting photos or videos
Icelandic horses are iconic and I’m so glad I did this activity (one of the most amazing things I’ve done in Iceland!). Spirit was definitely feisty as his name suggests but was also very responsive even with this being my first time on any horse
Note that there are jackets, pants and riding boots available to make the ride even more enjoyable - I suggest you wear them. We had rain, sleet, sun and rainbows on our ride

Wear the rain gear. so... - WEAR THE RAIN GEAR. So much a fun and great experience, but definitely got wet and regretted not having the true rain coat that was offered. The horses were wonderful and the staff were very safe

Fabulous horse riding tour through red lava - We loved this and would definitely go again! My 85 year old Mom who has a knee replacement did not feel secure enough on the horse and chose to return to starting point and sit out. However, the staff was very kind, encouraging and accommodating in bringing her back.

Beautiful Horses! - This was such a great experience! Everyone was welcoming and helpful, and the horses were well trained. I felt a little nervous at first, but quickly got comfortable and started enjoying the rhythm of the ride. A truly memorable experience!

English saddle on a highland pony - Sweet experience, even for the very inexperienced. If you have balance issues I wouldn't recommend anything above a walk. Sturdy horses with spunk! Experienced riders had fun too. English saddle threw me for a loop as the balance was like sitting on a basketball.

Trotting in the lava - The horses were great. Really eager to please. We did a lot of trotting. It was so different than the horses I have ridden in the past. Our guides were helpful and supportive. They made the whole experience lots of fun.
