A tour not to be missed! - We met with the amazing Barni Valur who was our guide for this tour. Barni's knowledge of not only traditional Icelandic food, but Iceland itself and it's history, made this one of the best tours I've ever been on! The nearly three hour tour flew by as we walked to 5 different locations. First we visited Le Kock where we sampled Lamb Tartare, and Smoked Salmon with pickled onions on rye bread - yum! Next we visited Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur, a hot dog stand which has been serving delicious lamb hotdogs for over 100 years! Also, yum! Next we stopped at Icelandic Street Food where we had warming meat soup (no surprises, it was yum!) and had time to buy a beer and chat with Barni. Our next stop was a store called Taste of Iceland, a store selling foods provided by local artisans. We sampled several foods and had the opportunity to purchase items at a discount because we were with Your Friend in Reykjavik. Our last stop was Dass Reykjavik where we tried Salted Cod, Fermented Shark and Brennivin followed by Skyr which was a real experience!! It was such fun to try all of the different foods and hear about why they are part of the Icelandic food and drink culture. I couldn't recommend this tour more. Walking and talking and eating and learning so much about Iceland, thanks to Barni. We only wish that we had taken the tour on the first day of our trip so that we could have taken advantage of all the other restaurant and food recommendations that Barni made. What a great way to learn about Reykjavik and Iceland.

Super experience - Excellent tour with Esther E. Provided great background information on the city and the country. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Selection of foods was varied and local. No pressure sales. Gave a tour of special landmarks and provided historical facts along our walk. Highly recommended. And photos provided after the event.

Great guide, wonderful... - Great guide, wonderful food from lobster 🦞 soup to meat 🐑 soup, from traditional city‘s best lamb hotdog with the works to local fruit jams and licorice sweets! Ending with salted cod and finally a very little bite of fermented shark with Black Death to wash it down! Awesome Icelandic experience!

Great food! - We did this food tour our first night in Reykjavik. It was a great experience! It was the perfect thing to do on our first night, even though we were extremely jetlagged. Every stop had great food, that were portioned well. Our tour guide, Stefan, was very knowledgeable. It was a great start to learn not only about icelandic food, but also icelandic culture. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Great food tour to sample Icelandic cuisine - We loved this tour and our guide Oli! We tried local cuisines and drinks while getting a bonus walking tour as Oli showed us many sites as we walked and learned more about the great city. Oli shared with us his expansive knowledge of Iceland, its food, and its culture. We tried all of the food but the hot dog was our favorite! We even tried fermented shark, but one bite was enough for us. We highly recommend this tour and Oli!

High hopes - disappointing results - We had only a couple concerns about the food offered. Most of the 9 people had already tried the hot dogs from the stand, so I don't think any of us wanted to go back there, but there we found ourselves. The final stop was rather nice, which was welcomed. Otherwise, the rest of the restaurants and food choices were okay. In fact, they could have been delightful given better narration and context. The issue really was with the tour guide. The song he and his friend did at the end was a nice treat and very entertaining, but those 5 minutes could not salvage the preceding 3 hours. Our guide had a tendency to either mumble, talk too fast, or (often) too quietly. Honestly, he was rather hard for any of us to understand. He had zero ability to hold an audience. When he would talk, it was more like a shy kid trying to get attention rather than somebody who could take charge of a group. All of us were anxious for information, but we had to pull it out of him. When sitting at the first restaurant, he seemed quite content to sit in silence. I went out of my way to try and help him out by asking leading, conversational questions. He would answer them well enough, and then go silent again. Finally, we all resorted to conversation among ourselves. That was nice, but we could have made conversation with pleasant strangers in a bar or on the street for a LOT less money. Personally, I was embarrassed. I've enjoyed food tours in Prague, New Orleans, Venice, Paris, and 2-3 other places. All were an absolute delight and I convinced my 4 friends to give this a try based on those experiences. I ended up apologizing to them for this. I think it was our only disappointment for the full week we spent in Iceland.
