Seljalandsfoss: This is one of Iceland’s most renowned waterfalls, located in the South Region near Route 1. It is a famous natural wonder, with a 60-meter (197-foot) drop, originating from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano glacier. Visitors can enjoy a unique experience by walking behind the waterfall into a small cave.
Skógafoss: Known as one of the largest waterfalls in Iceland, it boasts a width of 15 meters (49 feet) and a 60-meter (200-foot) drop. The waterfall’s spray often creates a single or double rainbow on sunny days. A hiking trail on the eastern side leads to the Fimmvörðuháls pass between the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers, continuing to Þórsmörk and the famous Laugavegur trail to Landmannalaugar.
Depending on conditions, visitors may also see the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which erupted in 2010. It is one of Iceland’s smaller ice caps.
Following the coastline, there will be a stop at Reynisfjara, a black sand beach ranked in 1991 as one of the world’s ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches. In the summertime, there might be a chance to see puffins.
The village of Vík, the southernmost village in Iceland, is located about 180 km southeast of Reykjavík by road. Nearby is Dyrhólaey, a 120-meter high promontory.
After visiting Reynisfjara and Vík, the tour continues to the stunning Sólheimajökull glacier, an outlet tongue of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap.
