Highlights
  • Reykjavik - Starting point for the day.
  • Seljalandsfoss - A 200ft high waterfall pouring down from the Eyjafjallajökull glacier. In summer, you can walk behind the waterfall. In winter, splendour at the shimmering icicles from a safe distance.
  • Skogafoss - A thunderous 200ft waterfall with glacier water feeding from two separate glaciers. Walk to the top of the waterfall for a bird’s-eye view.
  • Vik - One of Iceland’s most beautiful fishing villages. Here we will find a nice place for lunch (not included).
  • Lava Show - A 1 hour interactive show where real lava rock is re-melted over ice, alongside an educational and informative presentation.
  • Solheimajokull Glacier - A 20 minute walk each way to a safe viewpoint of the retreating Sólheimajökull glacier and its iceberg filled lagoon.
  • Reykjavik - End point for the day.
  • Reynisfjara Beach - Black sand beaches, angular basaltic columns and crashing waves. In summer, this is a popular nesting spot for the Atlantic puffin.

Experience Iceland’s fire and ice as you travel along the south coast. The day starts at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall that you can walk behind in summer. Then it’s onto the thunderous Skógafoss waterfall. Before long you are at one of the highlights of the day in the town of Vík, the Icelandic Lava Show! You will feel the heat of the volcano, with re-melted lava rocks being poured over ice just meters from where you are sitting. This educational indoor show will teach you all about the 1918 Katla Eruption and the harrowing tales that the locals had to endure. As we drive back towards Reykjavík, you will then stop at the Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach with its angular basalt columns and crashing waves. The final stop of the day is at the ever-changing Sólheimajökull glacier, where you will take an easy valley walk to a safe viewpoint, while learning all about the glacier’s journey over the centuries. You’ll be back to Reykjavík in time for you to have a late dinner in the city.
