Significant events in Iceland’s history have occurred at Þingvellir, making it a revered site for all Icelanders. Today, Þingvellir is a protected national treasure. As per the law enacted in 1928, the protected area will always belong to the Icelandic nation, under the guardianship of the Alþing.
- Gullfoss Waterfall - Gullfoss (Golden Waterfall) is a renowned Icelandic waterfall that offers a breathtaking view of the power and beauty of pristine nature. Located in South Iceland on the Hvítá (White) river, which is nourished by Iceland’s second-largest glacier, Langjökull, the water cascades down 32 meters in multiple stages into a rugged canyon with walls reaching up to 70 meters high. On sunny days, a shimmering rainbow can often be seen over the falls.
- Geysir - Geysir is situated in the Haukadalur valley on the slopes of Laugarfjall hill, which is also home to the Strokkur geyser, located about 50 meters (160 ft) to the south.

Absolutely beautiful Reykjavik - We were three couples on a 12 night cruise to Halifax, Newfoundland, Greenland and Iceland. We took tours in every port. By far, Walter was the best tour guide we could have asked for. We were on a very tight time schedule and wanted to see as much as we could. Walter was very accommodating. From the time I booked the tour, he kept in contact with me. I told him a few sights we wanted to see and left the rest up to him. He designed the best tour for us. We saw so much. He was very informative and a lot of fun to be with. I would highly recommend a tour with Walter and Iceland Tours by Taxi to anyone going to Reykjavik.

Excellent private tour/airport transport service! - If you are considering a private tour in Iceland, you probably already know that they’re expensive. I did a lot of research, using books and internet sites. Somehow I came across Walter, and I’m so happy I did. For one thing, he was considerably less expensive than other private tours, where you get a guide who walks with you and talks and talks about everything. Walter, on the other hand, takes you to the beginning point, allows you to take as much time meandering through the area, and then meets you at the end point. There were plenty of signs along the way explaining the various sites, so we were fine with this. Our private Golden Circle tour cost $760, compared to the $1,300-1,500 price tag other companies charge.
I was so impressed with him that I also used him to pick us up at the airport and take us to the airport, and the reverse on the way to the flight. When he dropped us off at the hotel, the street was under construction. He couldn’t help us with our bags so he called the front desk and they walked down to the street to lend a hand. I wouldn’t hesitate to use his services again!

Golden Circel Redux, i.e. Part II - This was our second time we did this tour, both booked with Viator. Walter, our guide, was superb, and quickly adapted to our modified version of what we wanted to see, i.e. deleting the volcano crater walk and spending more time elsewhere. He also had time at the end to add an often unseen waterfall which was very nice. The main geyser at Geysir is slowing down, try to watch at least 4-5 eruptions to get a tall one, the others will be short to medium. Stand on the uphill side or back side, that allows you to see the water up-welling several times in the center, which foreshadows an eruption. We use the video mode on our phones to capture the entire sequence and then at home take frame shots to allow the photobook to have a succession of stills showing this wonderful experience. Gullfoss has both an upper and a lower level, both should be viewed. If the wind blows the 'wrong' way, the lower trail has a section which gets more than mist, if will be a drizzle, that happened on our first visit two years ago but not this time. At the National Park, at the very bottom of the paved trail, there is a small waterfall with a hiking path to the top that can be done. We chose not to do it, yet again, to have time elsewhere, but would recommend it - it was supposedly a diversion that was made to funnel water into the stream and small rapids you cross on the path downhill for some historic meeting of dignataries. We remain curious what it looks like on top.

Private City Tour in Reykjavik and Golden Circle Tour - We had a great two days of touring with Walter Unnarsson and Iceland Tours by Taxi in Reykjavik. The first day Walter took us on a two hour city tour in Reykjavik and the second day on the Golden Circle Tour, which we absolutely loved. I found Walter via TripAdvisor three weeks before leaving for our cruise. Communication with him was fantastic via email and WhatsApp. He responded immediately to our request for a quote and confirmed all of our arrangements prior to our trip. Walter was always there (at the cruise terminal) prior to pick up time and went out of his way to make sure our trip went smoothly despite the rainy weather both days. Walter is a native Icelander with a great attitude and a great work ethic. His van is new and spotless. I highly recommend Walter and Iceland Tours by Taxi. Thank you Walter for a wonderful time.

Fun tour with Walter - Tour was very enjoyable enjoyable. Itinerary was perfect length, and the sights were amazing! Lunch at the Tomato Farm was wonderful--delicious food and interesting location. Our tour guide was very pleasant, if a bit reserved. Wish he would have offered some more information and stories about what we were seeing.
