If a hotel pickup is arranged, be at the designated pickup spot 30 minutes before the tour’s departure. Look for REYKJAVIK EXCURSIONS, the pickup service provider.
From Reykjavik BSI Terminal, board the vehicle and journey into the Golden Circle with the guide. During the trip, discover the area’s history, ecology, and geology through the onboard audio guide, available in 10 languages.
- Thingvellir National Park - Situated on the northern shores of Þingvallavatn (Iceland’s largest lake), Þingvellir (anglicized as ‘thingvellir’) is Iceland’s national pride and first National Park. It holds historical significance as the site of the world’s oldest existing parliament, first convened in 930 AD. Þingvellir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, protected for its unique geology and natural features. From the viewing area, the Almannagjá canyon between two tectonic plates is visible, illustrating continental drift.
As the tour’s first stop, visitors can explore the park and access restroom facilities if needed.
- Geysir - A popular stop on the Golden Circle is the active Geysir Hot Spring Area, featuring boiling mud pits and the dynamic Strokkur, which erupts water 30 meters (100 ft) into the air every few minutes. The area has been active for over 1000 years and includes more than a dozen hot spring holes. Although only steam is visible from Geysir today, its name has become synonymous with spouting hot springs worldwide.
During the tour, the newly opened Geysir Center provides guests and travelers with restroom facilities, refreshments, and lunch options.
- Gullfoss Waterfall - As one of Iceland’s most popular attractions, Gullfoss is a waterfall located in the canyon of the Hvítá river in the southwest. The stunning Hvítá river cascades southward in three steps into a narrow canyon with a breathtaking roar and grandeur. On clear days, the magnificent Langjökull glacier, Iceland’s second-largest glacier, is visible in the distance.
Guests and travelers can use the restroom and purchase food and refreshments at this location as well.
