Reconnect us with life - There are certain things that bring us inner peace and reconnect us with life. Scholars believe that a beautiful view, where your eyes meet the horizon and the lushness of nature, is one of the best remedies for the soul.
This tour to the Pastoruri Glacier was exactly one of those soul-cleansing experiences. The van picked us up early at the hotel, as scheduled, and it was very comfortable with an excellent driver. The trip isnāt too long, but it takes around 1.5 hours, with a few stops for bathroom breaks and to refill water (which is essential). During the ride, our guide shared valuable information about the importance of snow-capped mountains to Peru and the world, some interesting facts about the mountains, and tips for when we arrived at the site.
At the park where the Pastoruri Glacier is located, expect breathtaking views that look straight out of a movie, with an indescribable beauty. The van stops at a parking lot, and from there, you can either walk about 2 km or ride a horse (15 soles for the ascent and another 15 for the descent). Walking is not easy ā the altitude really hits you, and itās possible to feel unwell. However, if you go at your own pace, breathe deeply through your nose and mouth, and chew some coca leaves, youāll make it. All the effort is worth it when you reach the top and see the colossal wall of ice, along with the crazy birds diving into the freezing lake. We were lucky enough to catch a few snowflakes, so I recommend dressing warmly and bringing a raincoat.
On the way back, we had lunch at a restaurant where we had made a reservation earlier (on the way up). We arrived safely in Huaraz, feeling satisfied and well. Our guide, Roy, was incredibly attentive and friendly, explaining everything with great care and enthusiasm.
I highly recommend this tour with Scheler agency. They showed great professionalism and quality!

An experience of a luve time - Great adventure. Used Johnnyās tours from Huaraz Peru. We went from rain to hail to wirlwinds eith hsil to snow. It is the smallest of the glaciars but a great adventure to climb it. It is a 3 mile climb in below zero temperatures. Dress accordingly.

Impressive glacier - Was looking for a day outing to fill in my last day in Huaraz and this fit the bill nicely. Scheler Artizon Trek were excellent to deal with. Our guide was lovely but spoke only in Spanish. This didn t matter as a very nice Columbian lady siting next to me translated the most important parts. Trip out to Glacier took a couple of hours but we stopped on way at a cafƩ for some coca tea. They seem to take altitude sickness very seriously here and the side affects and how to avoid it was explained in great detail. This impressed me a lot.The glacier itself is retreating sadly but is still impressive and definitely worth seeing before it disappears. There are great viewing platforms and you can get quite close to the glacier. The trek up to the Glacier took me about 30 minutes. I had done a recent trek at high altitude and some acclimbitizing climbs so I didn t find it too difficult, though some others took longer. j I would advise people to just take it slow though and drink lots of water. They allow you plenty of time to get to the top and back again. There were emergency horses that were taking people up who were struggling.I enjoyed about 45 mins up the top taking lots of photos and eating my packed lunch before turning back. Got back to Huaraz about 5pm after another stop at same cafƩ on way back. It was a very enjoyable day and would definitely recommend Scheler Artizon trek as a company to go with.

Short and nice hike to the Glacier - It's 40-50 minutes from the bus to the Glacier area.
You can take horses almost all the way to the top.
The view is nice but it's very cold.

A good tour but overpriced by viator - Some very nice views and the walk to the glacier is not long and it is a good trip if you just arrived in Huaraz. A lot of driving but the glacier is worth seeing, at least what is remaining of it.
One last advice, do not book with viator, I paid 35usd (that includes the park entrance) when I should have paid 19usd maximum with a tour in Huaraz. Just book in Huaraz, plenty of tour options there.

Not what i expected - The Tour it self was nice and the Glacier very beautiful to Look at. I would definitly recommend it.
But when we arrived to Start the Tour in Huaraz there was no "Scheler Artizon Trek" Bus but we were transferred into a "mony Tour" Bus . So we had a mony Tour which costs around 80 Sol instead of a "Scheler Artizon Trek" Tour which costs ~135 Soles. So i would recommend the visit the Glacier but Not to do a Tour with "Scheler Artizon Trek"

Do NOT book this tour on Viator. Terrible organization. - The tour started out great. With a punctual pickup from the hotel by the agency here on Viator. Unfortunately, it all turned bad when I was dropped off at the bus station in the city center where I was told to sit in one of the big buses and abandoned by the original agency from Viator booking.
I was on that bus for about 15min - Then began a game of roulette as I was told to de-board and go to another vehicle. After we switched to that vehicle after about 15 min we were told to go to another big bus. After the third bus had already started its journey we were told, after 20 min, to de-bord AGAIN to another bus. This bus stood still for about 30 min before starting to drive - only to its agency - then stopped again. After another 10min we started driving againā¦only to stop at the gas station at the fringe of the city in order to tank fuel. We finally left Huaraz at 9:50am - more than 1.5 hours AFTER the activity officially started. This meant we got to the glacier super late - we were the last tour group to get there - which meant bad weather and masses of tourists. The lunch ended up not being lunch but an early dinner at 5pm. We arrived in the city around 7pm - taking the entire day for a glacier that is a 40minute hike. This agency that organized the ultimate bus and guide is NOT the agency in Viator - itās called āLucho toursā and you would do better to book with them as they are MUCH cheaper than here.
