Leopold and Plitvice Lakes - Two Gems - Leopold was an excellent guide and his local knowledge of the area and history added real value to what was already an incredible experience.

Great experience - Leo was the best tour guide ever! So kind, friendly and great sense of humor, the day flew by for our group. The park is beautiful - we took over 100 pictures, each better than the last. Lots of walking, but maybe 3 miles in total. A little hilly, but you'll take enough breaks so no one is left behind. A must if you visit central Croatia.

Beautiful lakes and waterfalls - Great guide and wonderful place to experience. Recommend a full day, start down stream and walk higher so that is uphill rather than downhill.

Opt to self discover! - After completing a 6 hour guided tour of the upper & lower decks, my honest opinion is you don’t need it. Don’t get me wrong, the tour was relatively good, informative and it did take us to all the paths, even loss a couple of kgs, which if we were on our own…we’d probably given up midway in the scorching heat. However, when you’re in a group with continuous incoming summer crowds both groups and self discovering, we did not have enough time to enjoy each part of the lake compared to if you were at your own pace. When you’re in a group, you need to move when the guide moves regardless, and if your group stops, it kinda jams up the pathway and you don’t want to do that, so you tend to move on rather quickly. So I’d highly recommend to self discover, you’ll still have the brief boat ride after an unimaginable queue, but you get to leisurely enjoy every spot, soak it all in as the lakes are truly beautiful. I would imagine the best time would be in autumn because of the changing colours and cooler temperatures. If you’re staying overnight in a nearby town, get proper prior information about the distance from your guesthouse/hotel as they’d probably be the most helpful to you, the locals aren’t. If you are walking, taking a bus etc. as google maps are not very precise at these locations at times. Buses to/fro Zagreb to Plitvice can be easily purchased online, just arrive 15 mins earlier at the specified bus stops.
