Custer State Park - Custer State Park boasts one of the largest American bison herds globally. The annual roundup ensures the herd size aligns with the land and resources available. Most bison return to their home, the grasslands of Custer State Park.

This event takes place annually on the last Friday of September, lasting for just one day.
Park Rangers guide approximately 1,400 bison from their summer pastures into corrals. This process helps manage the herd, identify calves, and maintain the animals’ health and well-being. It also offers visitors a chance to experience traditional cowboy culture and observe the movement of the large herd.
Once in the corrals, park staff sort 200-500 animals for sale, vaccinate new herd members, brand the new calves, and check the cows for pregnancy. The entire herd is processed over about four days.

Explore the stunning Badlands National Park, known for its jagged spires, weathered buttes, and deep gorges. This park offers breathtaking scenery and is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including buffalo, prairie dogs, coyotes, deer, bighorn sheep, and antelope. We’ll pause at major overlooks for photography and sightseeing.
The tour includes a stop at the Ben Reifel Center, which features a museum with a fossil collection and a bookstore, where we’ll enjoy lunch in a shaded picnic area.
Additionally, we’ll visit the renowned Wall Drug Store, a classic tourist attraction worth the stop, and explore the new Minuteman National Historic Site and Delta 9 Missile Exhibit (closed on Sundays and Mondays).
