Fantastic time on Fraser Island (K’Gari) - We booked the trip so my partner could experience the island, I had been previously on my own and loved it. It did not disappoint, in spite of slightly wet and windy weather, we still had a blast! The Dingos tour was well planned and organised, everything ran smoothly and we made all of our intended destinations with plenty of time to spend at each place. Our tour guide Wade was spot on, really good bloke who made sure everyone was looked after and at ease from the start. He was extensively knowledgeable about the island and its history, gave great advice for driving on the sand, and generally kept everyone engaged with a smile on his face. Helps that we had an excellent gang on our trip, everyone was friendly and helpful. Would 10/10 recommend Dingos to anyone wanting to see the island, but not confident enough to go under your own steam. Especially if you don’t drive or don’t want to drive on sand, this is probably the only way you’ll be able to experience it. For those of us who wanted to, Wade made sure we all had equal opportunities to have a go at driving on the sand. This is an unmissable experience when travelling in Aus.

RHETT IS A SUPERSTAR - This is one of the most incredible experiences of my life, 10/10 recommend. If you get Rhett as your guide, count your lucky stars because this man carries the show with his care and passion for the island and looking after his group. He went the extra mile and played us live music in the evenings and taught us about the stars by the camp fire. I can easily say he’s provided the best tour experience from my many years of travelling. Thank you Rhett, I’ll be setting up a Google alert for your podcast and book!

VIP 5* experience with Starry - Can’t compliment this experience enough! It was so well planned, we were looked after amazingly and the experience was made 5* by our trip leader Starry. He was so cool calm and collected and created immaculate vibes. We had some non confident drivers and he made everyone feel relaxed and was our biggest cheerleader. I don’t think our experience would have been the same. All our fun trips to the lakes, coffee stops, football on the beach really made this trip absolute paradise. Then there was the food! We were catered for very generously and there was always more than enough food and snacks to go round. No one went hungry with the perfect quality of food. Allergies and dietary intolerances were considered to very carefully. I feel very lucky to have had experienced this tour and very glad I got to do this with dingos I felt like a true VIP!

My unpleasant experience with Dingo’s as a solo backpacker. - I’m a young solo traveller, travelling the East Coast of Australia and booked the 3 day 2 night tour for $599. Why I (overall) didn’t enjoy: I signed my name to one of the sheets (which represents your car) and was taken outside to the car park, where I met my car group. The people were very friendly, I really was bonding well with everyone. You also need $2 coins for the showers, which no one had, so we had around 30-45mins of, getting food, searching for $2 coins all the while, talking to one another! I got back to the car park area where the head guy, who gave the talk at the start, came over to my car and said ‘who here is a solo traveller, hands up’. Me and one other bloke put our hands up, unaware of why he was asking this. He said one of us has to leave the car and join another one. We played rock paper scissors, I lost. I collected all my bags packed in the car and then walked around to find him again (he hadn’t told me what car I was in). So at this point I’m aimlessly wandering around the car park whilst everyone is talking in their car groups. He told me another car I’m apparently in now, I walked over and they told me they don’t have enough room, rather bluntly. So I have to find him again, and tell him, no they don’t have any room. He comes over with me behind him, looking like I’ve snitched on the car or something, kicks out a girl, let’s call her Ellie (she comes up later), and I jump in. Trying my best to socialise, I quickly realised that of the 8 people in the car, 5 of them already knew each other. It turns out that I had been placed into a group of 31 (4 cars, 8 seats in each, minus the guide in the lead car), where 27 of the 31 are in an East Coast travel group, and had been travelling together for 3 weeks. So yes, I spent the rest of the day(s) struggling to make friends as they had their own inside jokes, drama, etc. This group of people were not the most open and friendly bunch (I understand that’s not Dingo’s fault), in fact, the other solo backpacker in the group and I were accused twice by the tour group of stealing their alcohol, which we obviously didn’t but they saw us as easy targets. When you get back to camp, you can socialise with other groups, which is what I did. This made it bearable (on the social side of things). The activities and the whole experience itself is awesome and very unique but unfortunately there is not enough care taken for solo travellers. I’ve also seen/heard other people having the same problem. But frankly, Dingo’s is a company that doesn’t need returning customers, their customers do this experience once and won’t come back. Later on, I found out from friends that Ellie had been moved to the car that I was in. So he had straight-swapped us. For no reason, tarnished my whole experience for a lack of communication and organisation. Another last couple of things: Amy (I hope I remembered that right), my guide, was absolutely awesome and actually recognised my struggles with the group and spoke to me one on one. She is a great guide and the company should value her skills, ideas and attention to detail. I think she’d also be happy for me to say that she has had this problem with solo travellers before and there has not been a change made for the better. I asked to move groups altogether but she said there was nothing she could do. Lastly, during the talk, the guy doing the talk says something along the lines of ‘don’t whinge if we ask you to move, it happens’. So they know this is a problem and they try to shame you for not doing what they say. I hope Dingo’s reads this review and actually makes a difference. Suggestions: put a disclaimer if there’s a tour group, put the tour group altogether with NO ONE else (just get them to pay the dollars extra for the couple empty seats, DON’T put the solo travellers with the tour group (if anyone, put other groups/friends with them), have a better organisation system when it comes to sorting the cars not just a free for all with signing the sheets (do it on a computer, use a formula on excel or something to make it bulletproof), lastly, just take more care of the solo travellers; you don’t have any idea what they may have experienced in the short/long time they’ve been travelling.
