Since its inauguration in 2005, the aerial tramway has become a prominent feature for visitors in Quito. It presents an unmatched opportunity to behold panoramic sights of the Pichincha Volcano and Quito’s topography. The journey commences at an elevation of 2,950 meters and ascends to 4,050 meters, reaching the summit of Cruz Loma, adjacent to the Pichincha volcano.
The facility includes 18 cabins, ascending the cordillera for a duration of 10 minutes. Upon arrival at the elevation of 4,050 meters, a vast picturesque vista unfolds. The high-altitude grasslands of the Pichincha volcano, atop Cruz Loma, provide an extraordinary perspective of Quito in its entirety. With cooperative weather, one can spot several prominent peaks of the Andean range, including Cayambe, Antisana, Cotopaxi, Pasochoa, and Rumiñahui. Beyond the stunning panorama, this location showcases the raw beauty of the Andean environment, with a nearly level pathway guiding visitors toward the peak of Rucu Pichincha, the most distinguishable feature of Pichincha as seen from Quito.
