Highlights
  • Basilica del Voto Nacional - A neo-Gothic style Catholic church, construction began in 1884. The basilica was built to honor Ecuador’s consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, ordered by then-president Gabriel Garcia Moreno. Notable features include its towers with high tourist appeal and stunning city views, the National Pantheon of Heads of State, catacombs, three chapels, and the Oblate convent.

  • Plaza de la Independencia (Plaza Grande) - Known to locals as Plaza Grande, this is the main square of the Historic Center, serving as a political, symbolic, and historical hub of the city. Surrounding this historic square are the Palace of Carondelet (Government Palace), the Cathedral of Quito, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the City Municipality. The monument to independence stands at the center of the square.

  • Fundacion Iglesia de la Compania - One of the most significant Catholic temples in Latin America, the Society of Jesus features a facade carved from volcanic stone and an interior adorned with gold leaf, making it a prime example of baroque and syncretic art. Belonging to the Jesuit order, its construction began in 1605. The temple also houses unique paintings and artistic works.

  • La Virgen del Panecillo - This sculpture atop the Panecillo Hill represents the Virgen de Legarda or Virgen Apocalyptica, a Quito creation from the 18th century. Installed in 1975, it stands 41 meters tall and is one of the world’s tallest monuments. Made of aluminum and set on a stone base, Panecillo Hill is also one of the city’s most enchanting natural viewpoints.

  • Intinan Museum - Intiñan is an interactive museum where visitors can engage with the aboriginal history of Ecuador, its cultures, and its astronomical knowledge, particularly regarding the sun and its impact on these societies.

  • Los Armadillos - Discover Los Armadillos, E28, Ecuador on this unique tour. This hidden gem is celebrated for its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Amazing Quito - Favourite part of the day trip was at the middle of the earth and also visiting the various churches in Quito - loved the cultural experience - Pedro shared a lot of historical and interesting facts which truly enriched the experience. He’s very knowledgeable, spoke really well in English and was fun to hang out with! Travellers, bring a jacket and wear sensible shoes as it can get quite windy and hilly.
