CUSCO – UPIS – PUCA COCHA LAKE
Nevado Auzangate - Guests will be picked up from their hotel at 5:00 AM to embark on this incredible journey. Private transportation will be provided to the trailhead at Upis, where they will meet the horsemen and horses. The first breakfast, prepared by the trekking chef, will be enjoyed here. Hikers will be treated to stunning views of the Ausangate glacier peaks as they trek nearby. The scenery includes beautiful lakes, waterfalls, and possibly sightings of llamas, alpacas, wild vicuñas (the wild ancestors of alpacas), and condors soaring above. A 3-hour uphill hike will lead to the first pass at 5000m/16404 ft, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area. The campsite at Puca Ccocha (Red Lake) will be reached by 5:00 PM. This picturesque campsite is nestled at the base of the Ausangate peak and along the lake’s edge, providing spectacular sunset views and the chance to see condors and eagles flying nearby.
Baño termal de Upis - Situated in the Ausangate mountain range, visitors can relax in comfortable hot springs while enjoying views of the snow-capped Ausangate.
Laguna Ausangate - This green water body has formed at the base of the snowy Ausangate.
APACHETA PASS – ANANTA - WARMISAYA PASS - QUEULLACOCHA LAGUNE
Nevado Auzangate - Following an early breakfast, the day begins with a 2-hour steep climb to Apacheta Pass at 5100 m/16732 ft elevation. Throughout the journey, hikers will be surrounded by stunning views of blue lakes and the majestic Ausangate Glacier Peak. Upon reaching the summit, they will be directly in front of Ausangate, with the Chilca Valley and its many grazing alpacas in view. After capturing some memorable photos, the trek continues for another hour to Ananta, where lunch will be served. After lunch and a short rest, the journey proceeds to the second pass of the day, Warmisaya Pass at 5100m/16730 ft elevation. A 1½ hour leisurely pace will lead to the summit of this highest pass of the trek, followed by a 1-hour downhill hike to the campsite at the banks of Queullacocha Lake. This location is ideal for spotting the famous Inka constellations and stargazing at night.
EXPLORING THE RAINBOW MOUNTAINS - RETURN TO CUSCO
Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain - After a final early breakfast with the trekking team and enjoying hot drinks, a 45-minute gradual uphill trek will lead to the renowned Rainbow Mountain and the Red Mountain Valley at 5200 m/17060 ft elevation. The guide will explain the uniqueness of these mountains, which are unlike any others in the Vilcanota Range. This is undoubtedly one of the top tourist attractions in South America and one of Peru’s most stunning natural wonders. After taking photos, the group will descend to the Red Valley viewpoint, then walk for 1 hour to the bus station in Chilliwani, where transportation will be waiting to return to Cusco, arriving at the hotel around 2:00 PM.
