Unforgettable experience - This was fantastic, Gustavo our guide, has a lot of astronomical knowledge, because in addition to explaining the effect and science of bioluminescence connects it to the sky and its stars, “as it is above, it is below” HermesTrimegisto, Gustavo told us, and it is that the nights gave us the opportunity to even recognize the milky way. It is a unique and enriching experience, and I recommend doing it with a guide of this level to make it worthwhile. Many other reviews from other companies say to go it alone and that it is not worth paying for the tour, but honestly if you want to learn and truly connect with what this wonderful world gives you it is crucial that you contrast this tour and find the importance of knowledge and experience united. Thank you very much Gustavo!

A great experience - Wonderful crazy experience in great company. Never tried anything like it and I loved it. Looking at the milkyway while the sea was lighting and fish jumping around.
Very good guides showing us all the stars and naming it.
After an 45 min kayaking we stopped and swam in a shallow place while they talked about the alluminence.

Wonderful experience - Wonderful experience! Beautiful to see the bioluminescence at night. 2 people to each kayak. It is difficult to see at first, but the guide is very cautious and makes sure everyone is together.
Easy trip out and back. Great experience. Would recommend!

Excellent tour with a knowledgeable guide - Excellent tour! We took the bioluminescence tour and our guide Enrique was patient and knowledgeable. He pointed out the many constellations, the difference between phytoplankton and zooplankton, and other fauna in the area. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Would highly recommend!

Perfect night! - Highly recommend to do if you’re in Holbox. Tour was very informational learning about bioluminescence and the constellations. The view of the stars is amazing when you’re out in the water.

Night kayaking! - Wow! This was an experience like no other! We did the 10:30pm tour to get the most out of the darkness and were so in awe of the bioluminescence. Gustavo clearly has a love of nature and respect for the wildlife. We were fortunate to be led by someone with so much passion. Lots of kayaking, so be prepared!

Incredible stars and fascinating science of bioluminescence - The trip was beautiful and the guides were kind and knowledgeable. We had a cloudless moonless night and so saw incredible stars. However set up and breakdown was a bit chaotic. There were other companies that seemed a bit more organized. I would absolutely do it again with this company though.

I had to make the guide instead of the guide... - I wonder if I had the same trip seeing all the positive reviews. Our guide spoke only Spanish with only a few words of English but as I vaguely understood Spanish, he asked me to do the translation to the other people in the group throughout the activity.
After very very short explanations about what we will do (in Spanish), you leave in the dark night with a visibility close to 0 with your kayak that will occasionally jam in the sandbank, watching the guide’s kayak disappear in the dark.
The guide has absolutely no lights or elements to see or report in case of problems. I think it’s voluntary to enjoy the starry sky but without any explanation beforehand, it feels weird when you are stuck on the sand at night 50m from the beach and the guide walks away, even if there is no real danger.
During the activity, he gives blurry instructions, like telling us after 10 minutes of kayaking that we will head to the lighthouse and that we have 30 minutes of kayaking (???) then that after 10 we stop and leave the other way for another 15 minutes which are actually 5 minutes.
I put two stars because the sky was beautiful, and we could see the bioluminescence despite suboptimal conditions, but in itself the guide did not bring us much.
We observed the bioluminescence by putting a guide’s jersey in the water and taking it out.
Then you have to keep holding the jersey for whatever reason while he recites his really vague and basic text about the stars (here it is Jupiter, here it is the Milky Way, here Cassiopeia and here Venus) as well as bioluminescence. Of course he asked me to translate every sentence, despite my very primary Spanish, I didn’t really intend to have to do this by paying for my activity (too expensive for the service rendered, anyone with a kayak could have done like him)
We were already very smiling and friendly with him all the activity despite the more than average performance, it could have been really beautiful and reassuring with a competent and passionate guide, and especially much more communication and clarity in the instructions (we understood nothing we had to do and he seemed completely jaded)
