All wine is good wine when it’s good wine - 5 star review. More importantly a million stars for George. We had issues getting to the pickup and were late, but George the hero waited for us and made it feel like no big deal. He gave us a mini tour on the drive to the winery and was an absolute delight. After our tour he also spoke to us more about the wine and shared his favourite bottle. On the drive back he also gave us great restaurant recommendations. Alberto did our tour and tasting and was also excellent. He simplified all the important wine information in an easy way for us dummies to understand. The deli also provided Great recommendations for cheese and wine pairings and delicious cheese tastings. The wine was also delightful and turns all wine is good wine, when it’s good wine.

Friendly & Informative Wine Experience with Alberto - We had a fantastic experience at Gibbston Valley Winery! Our guide, Alberto, was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and accommodating throughout the tour. His deep knowledge of wine made the experience even more enjoyable! we learned so much and appreciated the way he explained everything with such passion and clarity. We truly had a great time and walked away not only with some amazing wine but also a greater understanding of it. Highly recommended!

Five star wine and lunch experience - The cave wine tour was unique and very informative. Maddie did a great job. Would definitely recommend it. We then had a delicious lunch in the courtyard of the restaurant and can only rate the food and service (thanks Shona) as five star. It was my husband’s birthday and he was made to feel very special. Definitely put this on your list of great wineries to visit.

Wonderful - Gibbston Valley is the birthplace of Central Otago Pinot Noir, dating back to 1983 when Alan Brady planted the first vines in this rocky terrain. A highlight was the wine cave tour—a must-do! Lauri was our guide and he did an excellent job. The cave, carved into schist rock, provides perfect conditions for aging their incredible wines. Standing among the barrels, sipping many wines including their Pinot Noir, was heaven. Easily a 10/10 experience.

The Pioneers… - This is the place to go if you want to know where wine started in Central Otago. Fantastic wine in a unique setting. Visiting is a must if you’re in the area. One minor point and the reason for 4*. Everyone was taking photos during the tour, and it wasn’t mentioned that you couldn’t take photos. I was singled out by the host for taking photos which wasn’t polite. They should make an announcement if that’s the case.

Wine cave tour - Amazing going in the cave and seeing the wine barrels and smelling the wine. Not a lot of information about the original wine maker. So little wine it was hard to get a true taste experience. But all enjoyed the tour.

Cave was Cool, but Tour Group Killed the Buzz - We booked a cave tour and tasting as a couple. The tour was interesting (what we could hear), and the guide did fine, but there was a bus group booked at the same time. They shoved people, spat on the ground, talked so loudly that the guide had to stop multiple times, and seemed more interested in selfies than enjoying wine. I wouldn’t suggest booking this tour without first asking whether you’ll share the spot with a bus group. Too bad because the facility is nice.
