Linlithgow Palace - Linlithgow Palace, known as Wentworth Prison in Outlander, is included in castle tours by Private Tours Edinburgh. This royal pleasure palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, serves as the setting for some of the series’ most intense scenes. It was used as Wentworth Prison, with its corridors and entrance featured in episode 15 of the first series, where Jamie Fraser is harshly imprisoned by his foe, Black Jack Randall. Claire aids Jamie in his escape from the prison. Interior scenes were filmed at Wardlaw Studio. Constructed by King James V in the 1400s, the now-ruined palace is surrounded by the stunning Linlithgow Loch and Peel. The tour allows up to an hour at each location. Visitors can climb to the top of the Palace for a panoramic view of the Loch and Palace.
