Katakolon Hop on Hop Off with bus trip to Ancient Olympia - We took a hop on Hop off bus tour that included the round trip fare to Ancient Olympia The company that provides the bus trip to Olympia were very easy to work with and most accommodating!! Ancient Olympia is wonderful. We strolled around on our own and read the historical signs as we went. Having a guide to take you through the ruins might be a good suggestion if you do not want to roam on your own. Katakolon is a very small and very charming Greek Village. Tons of shopping : souvenir opportunities. Multiple restaurants and bars along the harbor. A great day trip!!

A small jewel of the Peloponnesus - As a cruise ship destination, Katakolo is the gateway to Olympia, but the port and its neighbor Pyrgos (the county capital) themselves are delightful and informative. Having explored Olympia on a previous visit and wishing to avoid another crowded historical site/ museum, we chose the Hop-on. We enjoyed the Sunday morning ambience in Pyrgos’s central square and Memorial Park, the views over the bay, and the small jewel of the very well done regional archeological museum. The bus audio was a bit cranky (volume control stuck on the loud side, and the channels were a bit askew) but we figured it out. Efcharisto!

Decent tour - There are not many stops, but for the amount we paid, it was worth it. This is a small town with a few cool places to visit. Check it out!

Excursion Schedule Conflict - When booking this excursion, make sure you have enough time to do both hop on hop off bus and the museums. We only had time to do the Archeological Museum and the Archeological Site. We did not have time for the Olympic Museum or the hop on hop off bus. So please make sure you have time to do all this excursion says you can do within your visits schedule. Like the gentleman mentioned to us, it's up to us to check the schedule before hand. Also, you need to purchase your own museum entry tickets. It's worth going too if you are visiting Olympia.

Use caution! - We had a new driver so things didn't go really well. There were supposed to be 5 stops. He made 2, both in the town of Pyrgos. The audio headphones were working for the first stop, no problem. By the second stop mine didn't work and my wife's had switched to Spanish for some reason. I thought he had just stopped for traffic and didn't realize that was our second and only other stop. By the time I figured that out, We went down to the driver and asked if he could just let us off now, right where we were. He did not speak English (no knock against him for that!) but called someone I could talk to. No, it was not possible to get off anywhere but the stops. So back to Katakolon we went. We went back to where we picked up the bus and they said we could get on the next bus to go back, but we were here on a cruise and didn't have the time. The man I talked to turned out to be the same guy the driver called and remembered me He went to talk to a woman named Kristina. Kristina was a champ. She said it was a new driver still learning and he definitely got things wrong. She wanted things to be right so refunded our money. Five stars to her! As long as you know you are getting basically a round-trip ticket to Pyrgos and not much more, I'd say it is worth the ticket. Just pay very close attention to the stops!

NOT recommended! - Katakolo had little to offer. We wish we had gone to Olympia instead. The map the hop-on hop-off gave us had street names but there were no street signs to follow. Anything with any beauty had graffiti on it. I would NOT recommend.

Don't bother - Paid for the tour at the port & route described by agent with 8 stops, to get on / off, full tour about 1 hour 20 mins. A packed bus, on a very hot day. Headphones not working, the only time the bus stopped was when in traffic jam, never stopped anywhere, we were back at the port in under 50 mins. Complained to agent at the port who told us we were mistaken & had the opportunity to get off in Pyrgos - all the passengers were enraged, confirming nobody got off as bus never stopped. No apology - what a rip off !

The hop on/off in Katakolo was nice. - I missed the ride to Olympia. I don't feel the details are explained upon booking. I was expecting a more hop on/off experience where I could get on anytime. I saw conflicting start times. As I was 10 minutes late, the bus left. It should have been explained that there is only one start time to Olympia each day.

Shame - Nothing to see along the way, bad information, bad ears. Bus broke down. Definitely not recommended. Our group of 5 agrees with this
