Punta Gallinas is the northernmost tip of South America, located at the northern end of the Guajira Peninsula in Colombia, facing the waters of the Caribbean Sea.
It is an end of land that goes into the sea in a northwestern direction and closes a set of accidents that make up a bay of the peninsula that runs from Punta Gallinas to Cabo de la Vela or Jepirra (in Wayuu). Between both points are Puerto Bolivar, Bahía Portete and Bahía Honda.
Near Punta Gallinas, there is a community of the Wayuu ethnic group, one of the few South American cultures that preserve intact their ancestral traditions. It is an impressive natural scenery of plateaus, dunes and rocky cliffs, which emerge from the sea, embracing Hondita Bay. It has an immense dune that reaches 60 meters high that rises like a wall right on the seashore.
