Damajagua Falls trip from Amber Cove - Had a great trip to the falls with DSRR. Cost WAY less than the ship excursion (~$50/ea). Was easy to get to our bus. Walk through the tourist containment area and out into the tour parking area that everybody walks to. Then head out another 2 or 300 yards through the gate to the highway that runs past the cruise port. You can only go left or right. I vaguely remembered reading left in my instructions, so I headed that way and just told the first Taxi guys I ran into I was looking for DSRR and they all started yelling for that guy to come get us. They drove us the 45 min or so up to the falls, and one of the guys went with us to take pictures. I didn't really want the pictures, but the kid worked hard at it and was very pleasant. The falls were about a mile hike with a couple of steep hills. It was entertaining to watch the 2X year olds fall out whining while the 5X and 6X year olds walked around them. (Skip the buffet and find the gym Sweetie!!!) Don't be in a rush, the park puts you in groups and guides you through the falls, and there's a lot of folks, so chill out and enjoy the day. I really didn't care about going on this trip, but as it turned out, I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. Lilo, our driver didn't kill us, which is saying something on those roads. (He was safe and competent, and attentive to our requests.) Ezequiel, was very personable and worked so hard at the pictures, that I gladly paid him the $60 to download them all. (He was supposed to collect cash, but we eventually sent it via phone. And it was a heck of a lot cheaper than the ships pictures at $25 a pop!) After the falls, they took us to a chocolate/coffee stop that I really had no interest in. It wasn't much more than a lean-to in the middle of town, but the lady put on a nice discussion about the coffee and chocolate they grow and they sold packages for $15 and a bunch of carvings and kitsch that I didn't need (any more of!) I suspect that buying stuff at this location does more to help the local economy than anything else the cruise passengers do, so buy some coffee folks! Lilo and Ezequiel then ran us down to the port where we had plenty of time to not buy more junk at the shops. All told it took about 4 hours and was worth our time. A few notes: The ship tours tend to combine the falls with other items so they can charge 3x as much. If you chose one of those, check to see how many falls you get to do because we passed these tours on the way out. They were walking up the exit trail, and would only be able to do the bottom two falls. We went in May, and only the lower 7 were available. I understand that in late summer there are other falls higher that are accessible. You are sliding down rocks into pools cut by the water. The water swirls and shoves you around. Don't panic. You'd have to try REALLY hard to drown yourself, and the guides would get in trouble, so they aren't going to let that happen. But you may get swirled into the wall. My wife has a nice bruise on her shoulder. That's why they put you in life jackets and helmets. I suspect next time my wife will look for shoulder pads! Use a local tour! Leave your money with hard working locals instead of the ship and a tour company which is most likely NOT a small local group! Lilo brought water and sodas. Next time I'll call ahead and tell him to bring a six pack of local beer and pay him another $20 and call it a bargain! Lilo stayed with the van while we were at the falls so you could leave whatever you want there while you're getting wet. My girls all left their phones. Bring money for tips. The guides at the Falls will be politely waving to you as you exit, and your tour guides will also politely shake hands and wave as you exit. I should have brought more cash for these guys.

Great excursion and great guides!! - This was an amazing excursion and we would highly recommend it. It is one we’d do again. Papa Chulo picked us up just outside the cruise terminal and we loved learning about his country and guide business. He left us in the very capable hands of Ezekiel, Francis, and Gerkin, all great guides and very helpful. As indicated there is a hike to get to the top of the waterfalls. Our guides set a good pace and we took several breaks and it was very manageable. The hike is also through a plantation and is shaded nearly all the time. Sliding down the waterfalls was so much fun! You do submerge completely so don’t expect to keep any part of you dry. The guides carry waterproof bags and will keep prescription glasses for you. All other personal items are left on the bus with Papa Chulo. We had a group of 11 family members and Ezekiel took nearly 600 pictures of us with a nice camera. At the end we were able to purchase them for $15/person. One of the waterfalls you can slide or jump and several people in our group did both. There is also a ladder if you choose not to do either. The only downside was there were only 4 waterfalls that you are able to go down. Once we returned to the bottom we returned our helmet and life jacket and boarded the bus. We stopped at two locations included in the cost. We learned how they grind fresh cocoa and coffee and we’re able to sample the brew and buy fresh grounds. At this stop there is also shop where you can buy local artisan crafts. We bought a beautiful nativity set made out of petrified wood. Our next stop was a fruit stand where we enjoyed fresh mango and banana. Both so delicious!! We were then dropped off just outside the the cruise terminal. It was a great day and we’d highly recommend this tour.

Great experience, lots of walking - It was an amazing experience. You have to walk out of the gate to get to the van and we had a bit of trouble finding our guide. There’s LOTS of walking, but was such an amazing trip. **they do not tell you up front they will take pictures then charge $75 for the pics so be prepared for that**

Great Time at Damajagua Park - Had an amazing time on this tour. The park and falls were incredible. The rest of the tour was just OK. Take cash for tips as there are a lot of people helping out. Photographer, guides in the park, and the driver/tour guide. Appreciated that there was water and other drinks offered on the van. We made a short stop on the way back to the cruise port to see traditional method of making coffee and chocolate and have a little taste of each. Prices for Larimar were better than in Port Taina, but designs were alsi more basic. A little disappointed that there was no food or time to buy any food at the stop. They got us back to ship on time and the ride through town was very much slice of life and interesting to see. Glad to have the chance to do this fun tour.

This excursion is rated... - This excursion is rated for 7 waterfalls but we only experienced 3. Our guide was nice and friendly but could only speak very little English so all on our van had trouble understanding. He left us at one part of our hike and we had to follow another group and their leader.

Do not book viator or trip advisor as they do not follow thru - It was very unorganized. We went outside the gate at dr & showed our tickets. They said we were to go with this male who starts driving us. We asked 3 times we are going to the waterfalls & continued to show them our tickets. They said oh yes you guys are in the right spot we're going to take you to the waterfalls. We get in the ride and halfway there they say Oh I thought you were going to the monkeys. We explained we are not going to the monkeys we are going to the waterfalls. We forced them to take us back to the gate at the end of Dominican Republic port. They took us back and said they would find our tour guide they could not find our tour guide claims that our tour guide must have left us. Finally after we were back at the ship they called us saying that they were waiting for us with a sign. There was no one with a sign we tried very hard my husband was very nervous considering the ordeal we went through. We are trying currently to get our money back considering we never were able to get to the Excursion. Unfortunately they told us they do not give refunds. We have escalated to a supervisor and we are waiting for their response. I was just that anyone who is booking excursions do not go with Viator or TripAdvisor
